Job Description

Job Purpose: (2 sentence summary)

Technical Consultants are delivery focused technology specialists, who are viewed as trusted advisors by

clients. The Technical Consultant is responsible for working directly with customers to deliver and execute

Insight’s current and future services offerings. The Technical Consultant will also be responsible for

assisting with the development of Intellectual Property (IP) in their expertise areas and participating in

presales activities as subject matter experts.

 

Key Tasks & Responsibilities:

• Act as leader for the differentiation of Insight’s technical capability.

Develop solution knowledge and share this IP both locally and Asia Pacific wide.

• Focus on assisting the practice team to meet the Services Practice’s financial target.

Provide consulting services including discovery, design, build, deployment, test, pilot, documentation, and transition.

Assist customers in resolving highly technical and complex problems.

Work within political, cost, and technical constraints to provide the most appropriate solution for the client.

Collaborate with project manager(s) in project planning.

Effectively and consistently reports status of projects back to project managers during project execution.

Assist with project closure by developing project artefacts, participating in project lessons learned.

Display strong situational analysis, problem solving, and decision making skills.

Maintain professional demeanour and appearance at all times.

Collaborate with teammates (internal/external) using various tools and methods (Blogs, Conferences, etc).

Demonstrate effective time management and prioritization skills.

Take responsibility as the technical representative of Insight within strategic accounts to develop strong client relationships and identify opportunities for Insight.

Focus on maintaining 80% chargeability through billing for solution design and transition to delivery.

Develop profile as a technical leader in an Insight specialist solution area.

 

Qualifications/Skills Required:

Substantial experience in technical roles within a Services environment.

Ability to map client’s business needs to Insight’s technology solution offerings.

Interpersonal skills with the ability to developstrong client relationships.

Excellent written (documentation) and verbalcommunication skills.

Proven analysis skills with the ability to work with a client to understand requirements, define and present appropriate solution, and oversee delivery of a solution to the client.

Comfortable with presenting and communicating technical solutions.

A team player willing to develop and share IP within the organisation.

Strong analysis, design and implementation skills and experience (8+ years) in the WINTEL environment.

Tertiary Education qualifications preferred

 

 

Technology Streams:

 Mandatory Server Operating System, Directory, Messaging and Systems Management solutions.

 Preferred Virtualisation/Server Based Computing (SBC), Standard/Managed Operating Environments for Desktops/Laptops and Servers, Network Protocols and Industry Standards.

 

Core Microsoft Technologies:

 Mandatory Experience with Windows 200x Server/Active Directory, Exchange Server, and Systems Management Server/System Center Configuration Manager.

 Preferred - Knowledge of Microsoft Operations Manager/Systems Center Operations Manager, Internet Security & Acceleration Server, SQL Server and Live Communications Server/Office Communications Server.

 Core Novell Technologies - understanding and knowledge largely for coexistence and migration purposes.

 Knowledge of non-core and legacy technologies for migration purposes, e.g.

 Directories e.g. Windows NT and Domains, Novell NDS/eDirectory.

 Messaging systems Novell GroupWise, Domino/Lotus Notes. ISV software product knowledge:

 Thin Client technologies, e.g. Citrix MetaFrame/XenApp.

 Virtualisation technologies, e.g. VMware/XenServer/XenDesktop.

 Management products, e.g ManageSoft, Altiris, ZENworks.

 Migration/coexistence tools and facilities, e.g. Quest.

 Backup and archiving, e.g. Symantec NetBackup, BackUp Exec, eVault
