Job Description

Community Business, a leading not-for-profit organisation (Hong Kong Charity Number 91/6560) focusing on advancing responsible and inclusive business practices in Asia, is looking for a passionate, experienced and highly competent PR professional to play a key role in its Marketing Communications Team and drive its Public Relations and Media strategy.

Key Responsibilities

This is a full time role based in Hong Kong and reporting to Senior Manager, Marketing & Communications.  The role will include but will not be limited to:

  • Being knowledgeable and championing Community Business’ overall strategy, positioning and product and service offering
  • Taking the lead in developing Community Business’ PR & Media Strategy in line with our business objectives and goals, including print, broadcast and online media
  • Developing and executing a robust media plan that supports our programme of activities including, research, events, programmes and campaigns
  • Understanding the media landscape in Asia, with a particular focus on Hong Kong and India where we have a market presence
  • Developing relationships with the media including educating them on our work so that they are more receptive to our news and articles
  • Proactively pitching stories and articles to the media to ensure we secure coverage
  • Managing day to day media enquiries and drafting responses with approval from the Executive Team
  • Increasing content knowledge by investing time to be familiar with our products, services and research
  • Drafting content for the media, including press releases, articles, opinion pieces, blogs, statements, media kit materials, etc
  • Managing the Chinese translation process as required
  • Being a spokesperson for Community Business as required
  • Working with Programme Managers to ensure they consider how to leverage the media to raise the profile and increase the impact of their programmes
  • Developing relationships with the media contacts of the companies we work with so we can partner to raise the profile of their brand and leadership – thereby demonstrating the value of working with us
  • Identifying and developing exclusive media partner agreements on certain projects – as appropriate (eg LGBT+ Index)
  • Developing a relationship with a probono PR agency who might be able to support us on certain projects or in times of crisis management
  • Tracking and reporting our media coverage so that we can demonstrate the positive impact of our work in the region
  • Handle ad-hoc projects as required

Selection Criteria

We are looking for candidates who are fluent in both English and Cantonese.  Candidates should possess the following qualifications and attributes:-

  • A keen interest in corporate social responsibility (CSR), diversity and inclusion, and creating a positive impact through working closely with the business sector
  • Degree holder or equivalent, preferably major in Marketing / Media Communication / Public Relations / Journalism
  • Minimum 3 years of hands-on experience in public relations and media, with good business media connections
  • Strategic thinking with ability to distill information and come up with a plan of action
  • Commitment to developing content knowledge on all areas relating to our work at Community Business
  • Strong, proven writing skills with ability to draft media materials in English
  • Confidence in spoken English with experience in public speaking.  Cantonese would be an advantage
  • Self-motivated, but also a good team player and a flexible, positive can-do attitude
  • Highly organised with good forward planning, project management and time management skills in order to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines
  • Creative with the ability to come up with new ideas and identify solutions to problems
  • Proficient in computer skills: Microsoft software and Chinese word processing

Salary                                                                        

The salary will be commensurate with the relevant experience of the successful candidate.
