Nature of the role

Equipping children with the skills and values to lead successful lives and become responsible global citizens is one of our key aims at DMPS.  We believe that the learning of languages is of crucial importance in the world today and an important part of our vision.  As we move towards becoming a bilingual school, we require a Head of Mandarin, to substantially enhance the teaching and learning of Chinese language and culture and ensure that our curriculum and teaching, best meet the needs of our learners. The role carries responsibility for initiating and facilitating new thinking, strategy and direction as we move forwards towards our Vision.

Responsibilities

• Identify priorities for improvement and implement plans to achieve this in conjunction with the Principal.
• Development of Mandarin Curriculum for children ages 5-11.
• Oversee implementation of Mandarin Curriculum across the school.
• Lead Mandarin team, providing support, guidance and professional development for staff.
• Design and Implement systems to monitor and measure the effectiveness of the curriculum and the attainment and progress of the children.
• Sourcing of appropriate teaching materials.

• Native mandarin speaker.

• Native speaker proficiency in Chinese (Mandarin) and English.
• Extensive knowledge and understanding of Chinese culture.

Experience

• At least 3 years’ experience teaching Mandarin in International Schools.
• Proven Experience in Coordinating a team.

Qualification

• Bachelors degree in teaching Chinese as a second language or related field.
