Job Description

Role Purpose:
The purpose of this role is to undertake lecturing and course planning responsibilities for Christie’s Education programs in Asia. 
 
Key Accountabilities:
1. Lecturing and teaching
  • Lecture on a broad range of topics relevant to the Asian audience, in both English and Mandarin Chinese
  • Maintain currency of expertise and knowledge of the market
  • Design and lead additional programming beyond lectures, such as panel discussions, gallery tours, debates, curatorial exercises, discussions, role play, as relevant
  • Undertake additional teaching duties as assigned, including contributions to bespoke programmes and study trips abroad
  • Prepare and coordinate distribution of teaching materials for lectures given and  courses taught, including powerpoint presentation and slide lists.
  • On-site support for all courses and events, including marking attendance, dealing with inquiries, and assisting speakers.  Courses may take place on evenings / weekends and may require field trips and travel.
2. Program development
  • Actively contribute to planning and development of overall programmes – courses should be aligned with the spirit of promoting Christie’s businesses and relevant to an Asian audience
  • Develop short course curriculum; write and edit marketing copy in conjunction with Business Manager.
  • Propose changes and innovations to taught courses
  • Assist in planning of bespoke programmes and study trips abroad
  • Work with Business Manager to create marketing plan to ensure strong enrolment.  Be the driver in the content delivered on marketing and in social media.
  • Manage relationships with and quality of freelance lecturers, ensuring that they maintain professional standards of communication, personal presentation and behaviours at all times.  Support all external providers with their inter-company relationships. 
  • Where necessary, provide support in preparation of course materials, including pre-readings, slide lists, presentations, outlines, and biographies, as well as translation where necessary.
3. Measurement
  • Set course delivery targets, evaluating short programs and participant feedback against those targets.
  • Ensure number of courses and profitability per course is in line with target.
  • Monitor performance of lecturers for content execution and delivery ensuring that an excellent standard is maintained. 
4. Networking and business development
  • Cultivate and maintain an active network of academics and art professionals who might lecture for Christie’s Education.
  • Develop networks and relationships with staff across Christie’s Auction and Business Development personnel with the objective of raising the visibility of Christie’s Education within the rest of the group whilst supporting the corporate objectives.
  • Play an active role in engaging and cultivating all continuing education alumni with the aim of upselling future courses both short and full time.
  • Contribute to the programme of lectures and activities for the wider Alumni community of Christie’s Education.
  • Take part in recruitment activities both nationally and internationally.
5. Enhancing the Christie's Education brand
 
  • Represent Christie’s Education and build alliances and networks of key influencersAct as an ambassador for Christie’s, maintain and develop relationships with external bodies including major cultural institutions with appropriate networking.
6. Team work
  • Actively participate as part of the Christie’s Education Asia team to ensure smooth running of all courses
  • Liaise with administrative staff to solve logistical and other problems as necessary
  • Build strong support network within Christie’s
 
Skills & Experience:
  • MA or equivalent internationally recognised record of achievement in a relevant discipline, PhD optional
  • ​Experience in teaching; ability to demonstrate a high degree of engagement especially in lecturing
  • Record of publication and commitment to future research
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills – Chinese writing capabilities need to be in exceptionally high standardFluency in English and Mandarin is required; proficiency in Cantonese is preferred
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Natural networker with an open and sociable personality.  Ability to liaise well with academics, collectors, curators, private individuals and representatives of the art industry both large and small
  • A willingness to engage with information technology in teaching and use social media to engage with students
  • High level of accuracy; attention to detail
  • Organisation skills including planning course documentation
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office including Word, Excel & PowerPoint
