Laboratory Manager in Ming Wai Lau Centre for Reparative Medicine,

Karolinska Institutet, Hong Kong

KI has established a research centre in Hong Kong, the Ming Wai Lau Centre for Reparative Medicine (MWLC). MWLC operates two nodes, one based at KI in Stockholm, Sweden and the other in Hong Kong, located in Science Park, Shatin. The focus of the Hong Kong node will be on establishing a leading hub exploring novel technologies to strengthen basic research within stem cell biology and regenerative medicine. It will include up to four research groups, initially consisting of a total of 20-30 scientists.

 

Job Description

Ming Wai Lau Centre for Reparative Medicine, KI, Hong Kong is seeking a motivated and dedicated Laboratory Manager with good team spirit and good communication skills to help coordinate and enable new research activities.

As a Laboratory Manager, you will be responsible for the day-to-day operation of the laboratory including but not limited to the following: 

-  Develop and coordinate routine lab procedures among the research teams
-  Monitor lab safety and address potential hazards, including risk analysis and chemical inventory

-  Oversee purchase, disposal, and maintenance of laboratory equipment

-  Upkeep lab supplies inventory and restock consumables and reagents etc.

-  Oversee operation and maintenance of AV and IT equipment, and liaise with relevant parties externally and within KI

-  Supervise junior laboratory staff

The position further involves molecular biology research.

 

Qualifications / Requirements

The successful applicant will have at least an MSc (or equivalent expertise) with documented lab manager experience or equivalent preferably from cell, cancer, and/or stem cell biology research.

Experience in working with one or more of the following techniques and tools are advantageous:

-   PCR and qPCR

-   Primary cell cultures

-   High-throughput screening tools

-   CRISPR genome editing tools

-   Fluorescent biosensors

-   Fluorescence imaging  

Experience of working with modern versions of Windows and Mac clients and common software applications. Have basic knowledge of IT and experience in working with hardware replacement of discs, cards, memory modules.

Experience in writing applications for different approvals is a merit.

Excellent ability to communicate in English (spoken and written) is required.

Emphasis will be placed on personal qualities as responsibility, flexibility, teamwork and ability to solve problems.

 

The Employment

This is a three-year fixed-term position, with the possibility of renewal.

This assignment is located at MWLC, Hong Kong, and the employment will follow local labour laws in Hong Kong.

A competitive remuneration package with MPF and pension contributing up to a total of 10% over basic salary and medical benefits will be offered.
