Summary of the Position

Ampd Energy has an immediate opening for an in-house Patent Counsel. This role will require you to oversee all facets of Ampd's patent strategy, from harvesting ideas, to drafting and prosecuting patents, to provide insight to Ampd's R&D and engineering team on new technologies in the energy storage industry. You will be working closely with Ampd's R&D and engineering team, so excellent teamwork skills are necessary. 

We anticipate that you will have to collaborate with Ampd's external patent agent to manage the prosecution multiple patent and PAG applications. This role will also provide an opportunity to manage the prosecution of Ampd's trademarks with our external trademark agent. 

You will be required to have strong technical, legal and communication skills. We are looking for candidates who are motivated, reliable, have excellent attention to detail and are excited about developing new products and technologies with the potential to affect global power systems.

Key Qualifications

• Background in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronic, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science/Engineering, Physics, Chemistry or a related field;
• At least four years of experience in a law firm or as an in-house patent counsel;
• A proven track record of conveying complex descriptions of prior art simply, compellingly and in a manner which can be used to influence decisions by Ampd's R&D and engineering teams;
• Excellent English writing and speaking skills; working ability in written Chinese is a plus.

Specific duties include:

• Develop new patent ideas by participating in morning team meetings to understand in significant depth, the problems experienced and the solutions developed by the engineering team;
• Prepare invention disclosures describe in deliberate detail, the specifications of the inventions of Ampd engineering teams' new inventions; file disclosures as a USPTO provisional patent application;
• Supervise and provide substantive guidance to external patent and trademark firms and coordinate to prepare and prosecute robust patent applications based on your invention disclosures;
• Conduct detailed prior art research to understand the existing state-of-the-art and use your knowledge of prior art to addressing the R&D and engineering challenges at Ampd.
