Job Description

Our client is a world leader in structural formwork with operations across the region.

 

Reporting to the Engineering Director for Far East, Asia, the Major Projects Engineer is responsible for leading the design process for varying and complex projects in the region. The post holder will be responsible for converting enquiries into innovative solutions, which best combine the technical, commercial and operational aspects in order to maximize profitable revenue.

 

Principle Accountabilities

  • To act as a deputy to the Engineering Director for Far East, Asia as required, supporting in the continued development of business objectives
  • To provide credible and specialist knowledge resource to the Far East, Asia
  • To develop and optimise schemes, taking them through to approval stage
  • To plan and co-ordinate varying highly technical projects of a non-standard nature and their associated costs
  • Formulating the design concepts of temporary works and ensuring compliance with internal approval processes
  • Providing guidance / review / checks of designs by others where appropriate
  • Ensuring that schemes / calculations / quotations are prepared within the time constraints
  • Acting as an authorised sign off on design approvals
  • Travelling within the region, meeting customers to understand and establish their requirements
  • Provide a service to the sales teams and customers, resolving technical queries of a complex nature
  • Promote best practice in quality, health, safety and environmental matters
  • Contribute to raising technical standards, collaborating with the Engineering Director for the region
  • Contribute to new product developments and existing product enhancements
  • Develop technical data where required
  • Train and mentor others

 

Key Competencies

  • Detailed knowledge of construction methodology
  • Ability to communicate and challenge engineering issues with clients & the design team
  • Good time management to balance working on multiple projects
  • The ability to provide appropriate levels of response to meet design requirements
  • Excellent engineering and maths skills are mandatory
  • Able to produce well-presented and accurate calculations & reports

 

Communications and Working Relationships

Will require contact with engineering resource and management in order to respond to queries, manage casework and complete work load. Working collaboratively as member of the Engineering function, the post holder will be expected to deliver a high quality service. Regular communication and information exchange will be required internally as well as externally with clients and related parties.

 

Framework, Boundaries, Decision Making Authority and Repsonsibility

  • Responsible for a range of projects and a matrix of associated Engineering relationships.
  • Will be required to make decisions on major projects in order to achieve business objectives.
  • Authorised by Chartered status to sign off on drawings.
  • Will act as deputy to the Engineering Director.

 

Qualifications, Knowledge and Experience

Qualifications:

  • Degree qualified – preferably in Structural or Civil Engineering.
  • Professional accreditation by a recognised institution

 

Knowledge & Experience:

  • Minimum of 15 years Industry experience required
  • Proficiency and experience with structural analysis and design software, preferably MasterSeries
  • Understanding and familiarity with relevant design codes, preferably British standards
  • Comprehensive formwork and shoring equipment knowledge, preferably with RMDK products
  • Experience and proficiency with AutoCAD
  • Experience and proficiency with MS Excel
  • Background knowledge of the construction industry and site experience
