Research Assistant (One-year Contract)

Ming Wai Lau Centre for Reparative Medicine, Karolinska Institutet, Hong Kong

 

Ming Wai Lau Centre for Reparative Medicine (MWLC) is established to further accelerate research in stem cell biology, biomedical engineering, biotechnology, and regenerative medicine. MWLC operates two nodes, one based at Karolinska Institutet in Stockholm, Sweden and the other in Hong Kong, located in Science Park, Shatin. The Hong Kong node will include four research groups, initially consisting of a total of 20-30 scientists.

 

Description of Research Group and Position

 

The current research of Assistant Professor Sijie Chen aims at developing novel fluorescence based tools and technology for biological research, especially mechanobiology studies.

 

Under the supervision of a postdoctoral fellow, the Research Assistant is responsible for assisting in a variety of tasks which include preparing resources, equipment, materials for research projects, conducting experiments, documenting and analyzing experiment results, in support of research activities. The Research Assistant should also be able to work independently and collaboratively in the group.

 

The research project will provide the opportunity for the Research Assistant to learn proper research procedures and techniques, which may include but not limited to stem cell culture, cell imaging using confocal microscope or super-resolution microscope, bioconjugation, fluorescence spectroscopy.

 

Qualifications / Requirements

 

The application is open to highly-motivated junior researchers with a background in experimental life science, chemistry, bioengineering/biomedical engineering or material science. Experience in cell culture, bioimaging, bioconjugation and materials characterization is desired but not required.

 

Candidates should have obtained a bachelor's or master's degree from a recognized institution in related disciplines.

 

Fluent communication skills in English are essential.

 

The Employment

 

This is a one-year fixed-term full-time position, with the possibility of renewal.

 

Expected start date is 1st August 2017 or as early as possible thereafter.

 

This assignment is located at MWLC, Hong Kong, and the employment will follow local labour laws in Hong Kong.

 

A competitive remuneration package with MPF and pension contributing up to a total of 10% over basic salary and medical benefits will be offered.
