Job description for full time Manager of Marine Engineering

Role of Manager of Marine Engineering:

Manager of Marine Engineering of Adelaide Cellar Door HK Ltd’s (ACD’s) vessels will be the key staff member in charge of the daily mechanical and engineering aspects of our two motor boats boats, Jungle Jane and Tarzan and our sailing yacht Circus. They will also be responsible for the boat building and technical maintenance schedule to upkeep of the boats which have a heavy charter schedule of 80-100 charters per year per boat. They are also responsible for training and management of the local captains and crew about the boats electrical and mechanical systems and equipment. They will be the face of the company on charters and responsible for safety as many of the local Captains do not speak English at all or have limited communication ability in English.

The boats:

Jungle Jane: is a 21 metre ex fishing motor boat was sailed from Australia. She has a single engine with no bow thruster and is difficult to maneuver. Her controls and equipment are all in English only.

Tarzan: is a 20.7 metre double engine ex fishing motor boat which we sailed from Australia. She has very technical electrical and mechanical system and requires highly skilled mechanic. Her controls and equipment are all in English only.

Circus: is a 12metre sailing yacht and requires thorough knowledge of sailing and sailing specific equipment. Her controls and equipment are all in English only.

Key responsibilities

• Mechanical preventative and reactive maintenance of all 3 boats
• Engineering preventative and reactive maintenance of all 3 boats
• Electrical preventative and reactive maintenance of all 3 boats
• Boat building doing fiberglass repairs of Jungle Jane and Circus
• Thorough maintenance log book reporting and management
• Reporting to the Directors with an ongoing list of works for maintenance and improvements
• Safety and monitoring of the batteries, diesel engines and equipment
• Management of the safety of the vessels during typhoons and emergencies
• Management of local Captains, food and drinks crew and other boating staff during charters and maintenance
• Training of part time captains, boat boys and all boating service staff in regards to safety, engine knowledge, throwing lines, customer service and reporting damage/maintenance

Key skills and experience

Ÿ  Minimum 10 years of mechanical and engineering skills on vessels of size similar to company’s vessels or larger

Ÿ  Minimum 10 years of experience working on sailing and motor vessels

Ÿ  Must have experience on both single and double engine of vessels of 70ft or larger

Ÿ  Must have diesel engine service and maintenance knowledge

Ÿ  Must have boat building skills

Ÿ  Have knowledge of first aid

Ÿ  Excellent communication skills in English language as Directors and most customers only speak English and all company operations are done in English

Ÿ  Knowledge of Chinese is not essential but is a bonus
