THE ROLE and key responsibilities

To strengthen our policy and stakeholder activities in the Greater China region, the Foreign Trade Association (FTA based in Brussels) is looking for a Policy and Stakeholder Manager based in Hong Kong.  His/her primary responsibilities will be to:

• Keep FTA members informed on important policy developments and stakeholder activities in the Greater China region
• Develop and implement advocacy strategies and represent the association’s interests in government policy-making processes
• Liaise with international organisations, government and stakeholders in the field of trade and sustainability
• Organise events, meetings and think tank discussions
• Offer members expert advice on domestic regulations affecting international trade issues
• Plan, implement and support special projects where relevant

 The position’s areas of competence encompass:

• Trade policy and business legislation
• Policies in the field of sustainability, environment and labour conditions
• Regulation and legislative developments related to product safety and consumer protection with an impact on trade and manufacturing
• International labour and environmental standards and responsible business practices

 The Policy and Stakeholder Manager will report to the Director International Trade Policy in Brussels and will be based in the FTA Office in Hong Kong as part of the Greater China team.

PROFESSIONAL SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

• Master degree
• 5-8 years of work experience on policy and stakeholder issues, ideally with chambers of commerce, business associations or corporate government affairs departments; candidates with less experience may be considered
• Excellent proficiency of English, Mandarin and Cantonese is a must; other languages are a plus
• Able to build strong connections with a wide range of government officials, stakeholders and members
• Professional writing, presentation and analytical skills
• Diplomatic, flexible, dynamic and open personality
• Ability to adapt in a multi-cultural team

The position is located in Hong Kong; with regular travel to China and Taiwan, and occasionally Europe.
