Job Summary

The Sr. Director I&I Regional Medical Affairs Lead will serve as the Medical Leader for the region, providing leadership to the region and is responsible for developing and executing the I&I Regional Medical Team's vision and strategy in alignment with the Regional President.

The I&I Regional Medical Lead is the single point of accountability for medical in the region – across all the markets and the I&I product portfolio. The Country Medical colleagues for the I&I organization will report to the I&I Regional Medical Lead. The I&I Regional Medical Lead will be responsible for managing high-performing I&I Country Medical organizations and will ensure that country medical functions, systems, processes and activities are fully aligned with local, regional and I&I business priorities, strategic needs, and in compliance with corporate policies and guidelines.

He/ she also serves as the key regional liaison for the country medical departments, with country/regional/HQ Commercial, Medical, Clinical Affairs, Regulatory, Safety, Corporate Affairs and Legal functions. The I&I Regional Medical Lead provides medical guidance and input to the regulatory, safety and commercial leadership teams in support of key product maintenance and defense activities.

The I&I Regional Medical Lead is an integral member of the multifunctional/multinational Leadership Team.  In partnership with other members of the LT, she/he will develop strategic partnerships with key clinical and other stakeholders; developing strategies aligned to customer needs in order to maintain a therapeutic leadership position and drive business needs at regional and country level.  The lead will also focus on ensuring excellence with respect to medical quality and compliance as well as professional external relations through participation/leadership of the I&I Regional Medical Council.

Responsibilities

Technical

Managerial

  • Experience of direct management of in-country medical operations, including field-based medical affairs
  • Experience of above-country medical brand management
  • Past Experience of working as a Medical Director & line management experience in a large country organization

Qualifications

  • An MD degree is required.  Additional advanced degree is advantageous
  • More than 10 years in the medical affairs function in the pharmaceutical industry with broad expertise in medical and strong experience with regulatory and/or safety risk management issues.
  • Experience of direct management of in-country medical operations, including field-based medical affairs
  • Experience of above-country medical brand management
  • Past Experience of working as a Medical Director and line management experience in a large country organization
  • Comprehensive understanding of the regional/ international health environment and profound knowledge of the relevant and applicable regional/international legislation, regulations, Codes of Practice, and guidelines
  • Knowledge of pharmacovigilance practice and legislation and how it impacts product portfolio
  • Proactive, pragmatic, flexible person with excellent leadership qualities, strategic thinking, communication and presentation skills
  • Demonstrated ability to have impact on the business
  • Fluency in English; desirable to have fluency in another local language
  • Ability to work successfully with cross-functional staff in a team setting
  • Analytic and organizational skills in managing, interpreting, and presenting clinical and marketing data, for regional assessment
  • Ability to communicate, develop, and manage collaborative relationships with external academic institutions, co-operative groups, and medical professionals
  • Pharmaceuticals experience working in other regions, and, knowledge of regulatory requirements a plus
