Job Description

OFFICE OF GENERAL UNIVERSITY REQUIREMENTS

Academic Counsellor (Ref. 17072515-IE)

Academic advising is one of the core businesses of the Office of General University Requirements (GUR), in which we would assist degree students to plan their study in fulfillment of University requirements, to excel in GUR studies, and to adjust to University life and learning.

Duties

The appointee will be required to:

(a) provide academic counselling to students particularly in the area of GUR;

(b) plan, manage, and promote academic advising activities in the University;

(c) develop and organize GUR-related programmes/seminars/workshops for students and training workshops for academic staff;

(d) collect and analyse relevant data on student needs, preferences and performance for use in institutional decisions and policy;

(e) liaise and collaborate with academic and administration departments, and other student services in planning and implementation of academic advising in the University;

(f) contribute to the administration of GUR subjects;

(g) contribute to developmental projects of the Office (e.g. e-Advising, update of e-learning on Healthy Lifestyle and Academic Advising); and

(h) perform any other duties as assigned by the Head of Office or his/her delegates.

Qualifications

Applicants should have:

(a) a recognised degree or above;

(b) at least five years of relevant working experience;

(c) experience in student advising or career guidance, education or training, human or social service;

(d) good communication and interpersonal skills; and

(e) a good command of both written and spoken English and Chinese, with fluency in Putonghua being an advantage.

Preference will be given to those with a higher degree.

Shortlisted candidates will be invited to sit for a written language proficiency test.

Remuneration and Conditions of Service

A highly competitive remuneration package will be offered.  Initial appointment will be on a fixed-term gratuity-bearing contract. Re-engagement thereafter is subject to mutual agreement. Applicants should state their current and expected salary in the application.
