IT Operations manages the IT infrastructure and supporting services that are critical for HSBC employees and customers, such as cost-efficient hardware, system software, middleware and databases, data centres, voice and data networks, ATMs, desktops and other devices. It employs around 8,500 employees globally and comprises five functions: Client Services, Enterprise Services and Architecture, Data Centre and Service Management, Relationship Management, Project Management and PMO, and Risk and Administration. Collectively, these areas define and deliver HSBC’s technology strategy to support the Group’s goals.  

We are currently seeking a high caliber professional to join our team as IT Programme Manager 

In this role, you will

  • Works closely with the Commercial Banking business stake holders to ensure alignment with the business's growth strategy
  • Be the lead IT programme manager to manage a number of projects, which are based in Asia Pacific. From requirement definition to implementation ensuring alignment to strategy, business requirements and benefits, are met, on time, within budget. and of highest quality.
  • Define and create effective project plans using group standard tools, with the commitment and buy in from all team members.
  • Produce effective project progress reports to keep management apprised of project status, major issues, scope changes, resource changes and milestone achievements or misses.
  • Lead, facilitate and chair regular project meetings and follow up with team members as required to focus on business and operational issues or technical issues, documenting, assigning and monitoring all project issues to ensure clearance with minimal impact to project progress.  Provide input to Steering Committee Meeting.
  • Ensure that problems are managed at his or her level, and escalated efficiently with the minimum disruption to the business.
  • Adopt and share standards, tools, best practices, principles for cost, quality and productivity improvement.
  • Maintain effective and good relationship between the business and the IT Project team, managing appropriate business expectations and negotiating compromise where appropriate.
  • Maintain good exposure and develop knowledge in new techniques, products, services, technologies and standards.
  • Develop a good level of understanding of the appropriate business systems of the Group and their associated IT project management requirements.  

To be successful in this role, you should meet the following requirements 

  • University degree in computer science, information technology or a related discipline.
  • Work experience in the financial industry gained in system development, implementation, business process reengineering, system integration or operation support
  • Proven track record in delivering large scale program and in depth experience including transaction banking products 
  • Possess knowledge of the regulation affecting the Commercial Banking space in the region
  • In depth understanding of the global target operating model and drive Commercial Banking business to adopt to it
  • Managed change management projects and teams for tier 1 financial services organization
  • Experience to liaise with all relevant parties in technology and work with senior business stakeholders including front office, trading, sales and other supporting function
  • Strong Leadership skill to drive the business forward, managing matrix project teams both regionally and globally, with the ability to work effectively as part of a team or on an individual basis.
  • Solid project management skills in initiation, analysis, design, test and transition; PMP and Agile SCRUM certification would be required.
  • Familiarity with the HSBC standards and processes like Agile would be useful.
  • Good understanding of IT systems functioning in general. Exposure to technologies such as Java, Linux, Solaris or other mobile apps would be an advantage.
  • Commercial acumen and good risk management/mitigation skills.
  • Effective communication skills in spoken and written English.
  • With a positive, proactive and can do attitude.
  • Willing to travel overseas and Mainland China when required.
