GfK Boutique Research is a fast growing, entrepreneurial and self-contained company within GfK Group. We are the official forecasting business unit within GfK group, providing data driven insights and forecasts to our clients, who span the institutional investment, branded manufacturer and supply chain industries. We do this, primarily, by leveraging GfK’s proprietary point-of-sale (POS) data assets. Analysts are not only focused on primary research using these assets, but are also considered key contributors to the growth of the business and product development. Summary of Role           

As an experienced analyst, you will work within a growing international team conducting primary data driven research and forecasting using GfK’s proprietary data assets. You will help maintain and develop unique products and services that provide our clients actionable insight into the industries and companies that we cover.

The role will primarily support research on the mobile handset industry, though over time the successful candidate will be expected to develop knowledge across other technology categories as well. You will firstly become a sector expert within the mobile handset sector, maintaining research in one or several companies, regions or countries. You will maintain and develop quantitative forecasts and from that, conclusive and actionable research conclusions for our clients.

The combination of analysis of proprietary data, triangulation with external data points and ability to provide actionable insights helps our clients answer important business questions that virtually nobody without our data, resources, expertise, insight, initiative and creativity can answer.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Day-to-day duties will involve the processing and mining of GfK’s proprietary data primarily using excel and power pivot
  • Daily monitoring of market news e.g. product launches, stock movement, competitive research
  • Constantly comparing the signals coming from GfK’s proprietary dataset with other external data points, such as company reports, news stories, and investor events

     o      Critically: establish correlations between GfK data and other data such as reported earnings,                      foreign exchange, GDP, and other data and ideas in the public domain

  • S/he will be responsible for regular deliveries of quantitative forecasts alongside concise and impactful written analysis. Over time, delivering phone or in person summaries directly to clients
  • Listening closely to client questions and providing GfK data driven insights / responses
  •  Active part of a highly collaborative international team (members in Boston, London, & Hong Kong)
  •  Liaison amongst GfK offices globally to ensure accuracy of data extraction and extrapolation

 

Experience and key skills

 Data Handling / Analysis

  • Minimum 3 years’ experience of handling and processing large datasets

      o    Maintaining a keen eye for data quality and integrity

  • Strong analytical skills, including but not limited to data manipulation, various forecasting methodologies, data visualization, summarizing actionable insights and conclusions from data
  • Highly proficient in Microsoft Excel. Knowledge of SQL databases and/or ‘R’ a plus
  • Support Research Director in triangulation of GfK data with covered companies reported data

Client Service

  • Excellent verbal and written delivery, with the ability to summarize complex analyses into concise written research conclusions
  • Proven ability to present research to clients, either verbally on the phone or in person
  • Replying to client requests in a timely and concise manner

Interpersonal

  • Very self-motivated and goal oriented; interest in or knowledge of the mobile handset space a plus
  • The ability to think on ones feet when challenged, internally or externally from clients
  • The ability to work as part of a team, ideally experience of working across time zones
