Background of Project:

Growing with the increasing income gap is the digital divide across the world.  The greater availability of mobile devices and online learning resources has allowed a certain population to gain more knowledge and resources, but this has further separated the haves and have-nots, and widened the socioeconomic gap.  Uneven access and inequality in education have greater negative effect on youth from low income, migrant or minority families.

Project Description:

We are developing a state-of-the-art curriculum for secondary (and vocational) school students to learn coding from basic computational concepts to advanced apps development.  It caters to disadvantaged students with little confidence, low motivation and no programming experience.  The primary target students including underprivileged youth in Hong Kong, Mainland China and Ghana, West Africa. The curriculum would help students to self-learn, to think logically, solve problems systematically and to develop confidence, motivation and grit.  Integrated into this global project is peer and adult mentoring for social and character development.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Software Development and Project Management
   • Develop revolutionary, state-of-the-art web application for online learning – with software team in the development of the Visual Programming Coach (automated guide for computational thinking and android app development) for the Life & Career Development/Migrant Youth Phase II Project.
   • Work with curriculum developer on designing and refining the self-learning curriculum for computational thinking and Android app development, specifically design an advanced UI/UX for MIT App Inventor, allowing a simplified, customized, and motivating learning experience.
   • Design and implement an Agile Software Development framework plus project management system based on the Scrum methodology.
   • Work with the software team to solve the technical and implementation problems throughout the development process
   • Assure software quality and compatibility, and be in charge of software testing and integration.
2. Support Web App Deployment
   • Specify requirements of a web app deployment in the areas of user experience, market acceptance, speed, responsiveness and reliability.
3. Contribute to the documentation of the project.

Qualifications:

• 7 or more years of experience in the software/IT industry, and Extensive knowledge in entire web app development/deployment process.
• Degree holder in IT/Computer Science/Computer Engineering field.
• Experienced in Android App development.
• Expert in Agile Software Development methodologies and project management.
• Experienced in software integration, testing and quality control.
• Proficient in JavaScript, HTML5, Java, Python, C (language derivatives).
• A plus to have knowledge in ReactJS + Redux, NodeJS, Git, e-learning and App Inventor (MIT).
• A plus to have worked in an organization with global culture.
