Job Description
Our client a Storage Vendor is looking for an Onsite Resident Engineer for their banking client.
The Resident Storage Engineer’s primary responsibility is the support and delivery of Storage, Network and Operating System support in line with customer Service Level Agreements.
This is achieved by assuming technical accountability, as defined under ITIL v3, for
- Service Transition management,
- Service Operation, and
- Continual Service Improvement.
- The Technical Consultant is responsible for delivering technical services for the above processes and will work with various organisations within and external to the client in delivering services to the customer.
The purpose of the role is to deliver services to the customer in line with defined Service Level Agreements and support the growth of the overall managed services footprint within the region.
This role will also act as a key point of contact for technical change and incident management and as such will require a depth of technical knowledge encompassing, but not limited to:
- Responsibilities:
- Build and maintain key customer technical operations relationships to facilitate the delivery of services.
- Input to development of process and procedures to facilitate the support of the customer.
- Input to the Service Transition process including the Planning, Change, Configuration, Release, Testing and Evaluation functions
- Technical input to the Service Operation process including Event, Incident, Request and Problem management functions.
- Technical input to the Continual Service Improvement process including operations Measurement and Reporting.
- Work closely with the client's Service Delivery Manager, Account Team, other departments (i.e., Finance/Business Ops) and Customer to ensure effective delivery & implementation of storage infrastructure, software and services
- Work closely with the client's Service Delivery Manager, Account Team, other departments (i.e., Finance/Business Ops) and Customer to ensure accurate and effective delivery of all contracted SLA’s
- Act as the Technical contact and escalation point in relation to delivery of all the client's Services at Customer site(s)
- Review operational data and compare it to design assumptions and make recommendations wherever appropriate.
- Able to communicate with customers and the client internal teams for technical service engagement and able to influence customer on the client's solutions and design
- Maintain technical documentation for the accounts
- Participate on the customers Change Control Board as an expert storage advisor, including presentation and meeting with customer senior management.
Profile:
- A minimum of 10 years technical delivery experience. Previously worked for a technology vendor, software or Systems Integration Company or an IT Consultancy.
- ITIL certified (preferred)
- Advanced Storage and Fabric Management experience
- Network Management experience (understanding of Layer 2 to Layer 4 specifically)
- Operating System Management experience (Windows, UNIX (HPUX, Solaris, Linux varieties) preferred), VMware and Hyper-V
- Perform other duties as required or directed by management
- Trouble shooting skills related to connectivity and performance issues
- Understanding of virtualisation and replication
- Use of software tools from the vendor to manage storage area network
- Understand network presentation of storage, e.g. NAS, CIFS, NFS etc.
- Understand how to connect storage to the operating system.
- Understanding of multi-pathing software for each OS
- Possess the ability to resolve issues and conflicts, as well as be able to take ownership in challenging situations
