Job Scope:

This position’s primary responsibility is to manage the development and roll out of the Li & Fung Worker’s App, a smartphone based application designed to engage and educate workers in factories within the Li & Fung supplier network.  The app responds to increasing need for factory workers to be educated and engaged in the workplace, due to increasing complexity in the factory environment, as well as increasing pressures on factory management to retain and upskills their workforces.   The Li & Fung Worker’s App is fundamentally different from existing mobile applications targeting garment factory worker, in that it aims to help the management develop the ability to engage and educate workers, as opposed to being a tool used by buyers to check up on factory conditions through worker polling. 

The app is currently in soft-launch in Vietnam, and the next launch location will be India.  While an app developer has been engaged to undertake technical development, and local teams are involved in coordinating with participating factories, this role will be central to understanding needs and translating those into app functionality, understanding and managing data flows that arise from the app, and translating those into factory assessments which complement our existing factory database.  The position will play a key role in pioneering the role of smartphones In factories in emerging markets, and creating business value from their application. 

Candidates for this role should be interested in sustainability and social engagement, factory upgrading and digitalization, as well as the mobile/digital in the emerging markets.  Candidates should have a strong interest in factory workers’ well-being, as well as in creating a new dynamic within which factory workers are more empowered and have more opportunities.   

Although this role centers on the Worker’s App, there will also be an expectation and opportunity to engage in the field of factory digitalization in general, as an when those projects arise.  Much will be left to the strengths and interests of the candidate.

Qualifications / Requirements:

General Skills:

• Ability to envision a digital future in rudimentary conditions, and to put that vision into plans connected with the present and which take into account business conditions.   
• An understanding of sustainability and worker engagement in supply chain.
• Ability to work collaboratively with teams from around the organization and externally. 
• Focus and perseverance in managing diverse stakeholders to achieve a known deliverable, even when those stakeholders might have differing interests.  
• Cultural sensitivity and good communications skills. An Asian language would be a plus, as would experience working in a developing country.  

Technical Skills: 

• Familiarity with mobile and digital applications in business.  Experience in any aspect of mobile app development would be a big plus.   
• Experience with data analytics and ability to derive insight from structured and unstructured data. 
• Basic business analysis.  
• Understanding of supply chains and retail operations.
