Growing reinsurer looking for a Property & Casualty Actuary. This is a new headcount arising from an expanding business. Our client has recently extended their coverage into 2 new geographical areas leveraging on the huge success in growing the Property & Casualty business within the region past few years. As distribution channels are getting more complex and regulatory requirements are getting more stringent, they are now looking for a mid-level actuarial professional to join the team and assist on solvency calculation, valuation of business lines, ad-hoc business planning and analysis as well as calculations on equity investments. This role will report to the Actuarial Director who is very seasoned actuary with extensive experience in Europe and Asia. This person is also an active member in market societies / committees and a good people leader / coach. Aside from learning from the Actuarial Director, there are plenty of exciting changes ahead within the business which would allow the person in this role to gain a variety of exposure, both from technical hands-on perspective and high level business understanding perspective.

Responsibilities:

• Support quarterly reviews of the premium, loss and expense reserves on all lines of business for P&C. This includes the calculation of an actuarial best estimate and calculations of applicable risk margins. It requires working closely with frontline business staff including but not limited to the markets, underwriters and analytics team members in the process.
• Present and communicate the result of the quarterly reserve analysis to senior management and to all other key stakeholders as required.
• Support external consultants' independent analyses of the P&C reserves and support statutory reporting requirements as needed.
• Review the current process and provide suggestions for enhancement as necessarily.
• Input to and assist with planning and controlling processes.
• Contribute to the ongoing development and management of reserving databases, applications and systems.
• Work closely with financial planning & controlling team on ongoing portfolio analysis, e.g. key accounts review.
• Support capital modelling in connection with some overseas entities.
• Support the Director in providing information to the risk management team on asset liability management analysis.
• Support any reserving due diligence work in connection with portfolio acquisition projects.
• Performing and presenting ad-hoc analyses.

Core Competencies:

Job Based Competencies

• Degree in Mathematics, Actuarial or any other related subject
• Candidate should be well progressed towards fellowship level with a major actuarial body (e.g. Institute and Faculty of Actuaries (UK), Institute of Actuaries in Australis or Casualty Actuarial Society)
• 5 years or more P&C experience preferably including reinsurance experience - can be from reinsurers / reinsurance broking / consulting / direct insurers (focusing on reinsurance from the buying side)
• Solid technical knowledge of standard reserving techniques, ideally including stochastic modelling / dynamic financial analysis (DFA)
• Good customer service and interpersonal skills
• Able to work independently and take responsibility for some projects
• Good command of written and spoken English
• Flexible and entrepreneurial mindset
