a day in the life of an In-Season Merchandise Manager

Reporting to the Country Merchandise Manager (CM), the In Season Manager (ISM) is responsible for the financial plans and in season management of the inventory and the local execution of the product assortment in store. The ISM is responsible for supporting the CM, owning and managing all aspects of product relating to the life of an item post PO including In Season trade, including allocations, sell through, margin, mark downs & exit.

They work in close partnership with the APAC Merchandising team and are the competitive market expert for their particular category & region. This person will have effective cross functional partnerships with the APAC Buying & planning teams, Allocations, Visual Merchandising, Digital, Brand and Community and Retail Operations to support “right product, right stores, right time”.  The ISM is responsible for the development of other members of the regional merchandise team and creating strong relationships across APAC and locally.

 

key responsibilities:

  • Contribute to the financial success of the region by meeting and exceeding sales, gross margin and inventory productivity goals through all channels (stores, ecommerce, strategic sales, & showrooms) through the effective partnership with APAC Merchandising team
  • Is a “market expert” in their region for all channels and can effectively communicate key data points, including merchandising strategies, athletic and fashion trends, pricing and competition, that inform the APAC product strategy for their category
  • Execute design’s vision in a locally relevant way as intended by the APAC Merchandise team
  • Proactively gather, analyse and drive insight from local market knowledge and competitive landscape across all channels
  • Lead the monthly product reviews (“meltdown”) for their category, delivering on timely, measureable, and actionable feedback
  • Act as the primary point of contact for product feedback from your category and region
  • Formulate and define local pricing strategies
  • Lead the in-season management of your product category, item plans, product lifecycle, flow, allocations, product education, markdowns and exit
  • Key owner of product locally & all cross functional relationships in market
  • Trains, supports, and develops regional merchandise teams

 

the finer print

  • 6+ years’ experience in retail in a merchant, buying or planning role
  • Bachelor’s degree qualified (Business, commerce preferred) 
  • Vertical retail and omni channel experience highly desirable
  • Mastery of retail mathematics and Open to Buy
  • Strong analytical skills, including the ability to interpret multiple data points across numerous channels and market segments
  • Strong relationship builder and cross functional partner
  • Proven ability to work across a cross functional team
  • Excellent sense of style and color trends; athletically minded
  • Excellent communication skills - interpersonal, written and verbal
  • Entrepreneurship – an ability to make decisions and take calculated risks
  • Focus on creating an extraordinary guest experience,
  • Great organizational and time management skills
  • Strong knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel and Outlook)
  • Willingness to travel and work on the retail floor
