Objectives:

The Designer is responsible for Design and development of range of products within “look and feel of the C&A brand"

Main responsibilities:

Design process:

• Creating/ Visualizing idea by hand or CAD;
• Keep up to date with emerging fashion trends as well as trends relating to colour fabric and silhouette;
• Fulfill line plan obligations/OTB and other on seasonal basis;
• Design relevant product assortment based on trend / best sellers and new opportunities identified by business objective;
• Drive trend awareness and newness through product design and development relevant to product category;
• Clear presentation and clear communication of ideas;
• Ability to research appropriate materials and trims;
• Ability to develop new cups, shapes and fits.

Brand building:

• Follow seasonal story and develop new product within the brief;
• Demonstrate understanding of look and feel;
• Communicate brand message as designer level.

Product conception:

• Demonstrate clear and comprehensive design and catwalk research of product area;
• Translate catwalk and trend to commercially relevant product;
• Distinguish between design and develop key items / trend must haves and essential items up to date knowledge of best and worst sellers;
• Clear understanding of use of equipment in stores and its impact on the design process;
• Clear understanding of line plan architecture and price points to be achieved;
• Clear understanding of design critical path to E2E calendar;
• Adherence to internal design / merchant deadlines;
• Create clear concise product specifications (pdps) which communicate style, fabric, trim, color and construction (critical in the successful interpretation of a concept sample);
• Selection of fabric and trim against styling concept;
• Responsible for timely and clear feedback to supplier in concept samples;
• Close liaison with sourcing / suppliers to chase concept samples;
• Lab dip approvals and trim matching.

 Cross functional collaboration:

• Close liaison with merchant teams on ongoing basis to ensure price points are consistent with line architecture;
• Close working relationship with trend team to keep abreast of global trend influencers;
• Strong collaborative and working partnerships with other designers within team to ensure collaboration and universal understanding of collection;
• Work with pattern cutters where applicable;
• Work with garment technical to understand design from a technical perspective and perfect garment specifications (pdps) and measurements / blocks;
• Adhere to deadlines;
• Communicate issues to design manager in timely manner;
• Bring design solutions to the team;
• Work with sourcing partners to communicate technical and aesthetic requirements of product to be developed (influence correct choice of manufacturing unit);
• Work closely with fabric sourcing to achieve newness in fabric and trim relevant to their product category;
• Work on color development and approval with colorist;
• Work on special projects and innovations development in order to speed up timeline. 

 Requirements:

• Working knowledge of garment construction, textiles, and current finishing techniques and processes;
• Artistic hand, strong sense of colour and style Strong knowledge of silhouettes, fabrication, colour use, sewing techniques , graphics and trim;
• Excellent presentation and negotiation skills;
• Strong critical thinking and exercise swift problem solving skills;
• Demonstrate strong verbal, organization and written communication skills;
• Meticulous attention to detail and follow through in execution;
• Strong team player who can also work independently and in fast paced environment;
• A keen eye with the ability to identify the market trends relevant to address the needs of the customer segmentation;
• Ability to manage and react to change;
• Expert in design and construction.  Excellent technical knowledge is a must;
• Demonstrable technical knowledge of garment construction;
• Demonstrable knowledge of fabric and trim;
• Understanding and experience designing for European market;
• Open and able to travel with the Far East to visit suppliers if needed, and to European for meetings;
• Good Team player and clear communicator;
• Good Presentation skills;
• Mandatory level in Photoshop and Illustrator CS6 minimum;
• Degree in fashion design / womenswear specific, especially for Lingerie product;
• At least 3 to 5 years experience in retail or manufacturing design studio environment.
