Job Description
Position summary:
Hardware Engineer, as a member of HW team is responsible to develop new products covering the associated tasks of technical feasibility, cost control (CBOM), problem solving, components second source qualification and failure analysis. Products are state of the art highly integrated telecommunication modules operating on cellular network (2G, 3G, LTE, LPWA) to provide data and voice connectivity. Modules are commonly associated with other technologies such as GNSS. Acting as a member of a project team supervised by a Project Manager, Hardware Engineer has to proactively collaborate to share and consolidate information, execute tasks defined by the manager on time. Hardware Engineer is accountable for the compliance to quality processes in application.
To support the project activity monitoring, Hardware Engineer will issue the required reporting (such as test reports, issues description and measurement analysis) and will suggest actions for improvement to the manager based on clear statements and logical analysis. Hardware Engineer will be required to visit the factory from time to time to support NPI process and provide the required trainings to the factory (such as anomaly trouble shooting and failure analysis). When involved in product maintenance activities (MOL), Hardware Engineer has to support the Manufacturing team (for production yield optimization), collaborate with Sales team to technically support customers and be responsible of the qualification of new component sources to extend the products life span.
Compared to Hardware Engineer, the senior Hardware Engineer has to be capable to coach less experienced Hardware Engineer in providing guidance in test set-up, in reporting, interpretation of the test results, and ability to guide on product modification to be implemented for product performance improvement.
Key responsibilities:
- Develop new products in accordance to Product Plan (quality, cost and schedule). In particular execute tasks on time as agreed with the manager. Support MOL activities when required
- Be clear and accurate in communication providing relevant data, test interpretation, conclusion with suggestion of improvements (emails, test report and general documentation)
- Collaborate with hardware team members to consolidate information and other hardware teams on different sites when required to share information and leverage efforts
- Visit the factory to support NPI process and provide the factory with required training (trouble shooting and failure analysis)
- Comply to ISO requirement and QMS in general
Key requirements:
- Degree or above in Electronics Engineering, computer science, or related disciplines
- Extensive hardware product development experience covering Digital, Analog and Radio Frequency design
- Knowledge of 3GPP standards such as and not limited to 2G, 3G and LTE
- Team spirit and strong ability to collaborate with the various project teams over Sierra Wireless multi sites
- Professional ethic, self-initiated, work under pressure
Candidate with less relevant experience may be considered as Hardware Engineer
