Brief summary of role

The Financial Times is recruiting a lawyer to join its well-established legal team as Legal Counsel.

This role offers the right individual a rare opportunity to join a friendly, collegiate and professional team working in a global and highly respected media organisation.   The successful candidate will be the primary point of contact for FT's various businesses in Hong Kong, providing legal, company secretarial and compliance support.

The FT's Legal, Compliance and Company Secretariat team enjoys a strong reputation within the business and is seen by its internal clients as a genuine business partner.

In this role:

You will be the sole member of the team in our Hong Kong office, supporting FT Group and joint venture within APAC, and providing:

• Everyday legal advice on matters such as advertising, communications, marketing, and general commercial contracts;
• Support for the sales teams, helping to negotiate contracts for corporate subscriptions, syndication and events;
• Advice and training on compliance issues such as data protection, anti-bribery and corruption and modern slavery; and
• Company secretarial support to local FT entities and joint venture.
• You will report into the General Counsel and the Company Secretary.

You'll bring to the role....

Essential

• At least five years qualified experience as a lawyer
• Solid commercial contracts background and in-house experience
• Regional legal experience and knowledge for APAC countries. A good working knowledge of Hong Kong privacy laws and their application within business
• Experience and ability to work effectively with virtual stakeholders across geographies
• Experience of minute-taking and a genuine interest in working for a leading business news and information organisation.
• You must be a confident, articulate, credible and commercially-minded lawyer, with excellent interpersonal skills, experience in providing training (in-house) and the ability to work independently.
• Fluency in English is required. Ability to communicate in at least one other APAC languages will be advantageous.

Desirable

It would be helpful for the candidate to have trained and qualified at a leading law firm, to have worked as part of an international in-house team and to have experience of implementing compliance within an international organisation.
