Job Description

The Programmer will assist the Artistic Director and Curator in research, planning, organization, programming, and presentation of the annual Hong Kong International Film Festival, year-round repertory and ancillary film programmes of the Society.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee programming related operations of HKIFF and HKIFFS programmes;
  • Preview of films, liaising and negotiation screening terms with distributors;
  • Liaise with film distributors to ensure the delivery of films are on schedule and handle all procedural arrangements for film traffic and customs clearance for the Festival;
  • Co-ordinate the print traffic between print sources and other festivals;
  • Co-ordinate and collect publicity materials from print sources;
  • Co-ordinate festival related exhibitions, writing of exhibition panel text, shipment of exhibits etc.;
  • Seek, sort and catalogue all incoming publicity material;
  • Co-ordinate film touring programmes outside Hong Kong;
  • Co-ordinate local film programmes partnering with other organizations;
  • Provide support to PR/Marketing team, such as advising on marketing angle/promotion of films, speaking to media;
  • Provide support to the editorial and HAF teams;
  • Hosting of seminars and Q&A sessions;
  • Oversee subtitles translations;
  • Negotiate the hospitality and special ticketing arrangements with distributors and overseas guests;
  • Liaise with educational institutes on seminars with visiting filmmakers; and
  • Perform any other tasks as assigned by the immediate supervisor and/or management from time to time.

 

Requirements:

  • University graduate or equivalent;
  • At least 5 years’ in film curatorial or film programming position;
  • Good networking with the film industry, film festival directors, distributors, producers and sales agents;
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication skills and must be a team-player;
  • Excellent command of both written and spoken English and Chinese including Putonghua, knowledge of other languages will be an advantage;
  • Proficient in PC skills (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint); and
  • Required to work overtime and irregular hours including full-day work on weekends and public holidays during certain periods.
