Duties and Responsibilities:

The Guidance Counselor will work under the direct supervision of the Director of Student Services and be responsible for planning and delivering a comprehensive developmental guidance and counselling program. The following duties and responsibilities are typical but not exhaustive: 

Program Administration and Coordination

• Collaborating with administrators and teachers in planning, implementing, promoting and evaluating the program; coordinating services such as standardized testing schedules as needed 

Guidance and Counselling 

• Planning and delivering individual and group guidance/ counselling 

Consultation 

• Consulting with staff and parents in planning appropriate services for students; providing professional advice to students and parents 

Referral 

• Assisting students and their families in receiving appropriate assistance from other programs and services within and outside of the school 

Qualifications and Experience: 

Education and Training 

• Bachelor of Social Work or equivalent
• Master degree in guidance and/ or counselling strongly preferred
• Bible school training strongly preferred 

Experience 

• At least three (3) years of experience in guidance/ counselling at a K-12 school required 

Knowledge 

• Working knowledge of tertiary education requirements preferred 

Competencies 

• Ability to communicate effectively with students, parents, and staff members required
• Ability to communicate effectively in both English and Chinese preferred 

English Language Competency 

• Proficiency in written and spoken English required 

Professional Development 

• Remain current in research and development of guidance and counselling 

Effective Date of Employment

The starting date for this appointment is 15 August 2018. Initial contracts are normally 2 years in duration
