Job Description

The Centre for Asian Philanthropy and Society (CAPS) is a uniquely Asian nonprofit organization that promotes best practices and standards in philanthropy through its own research, capacity-building, and conferences; and through partnership with its intermediary network throughout Asia. CAPS carries out world-class policy and applied research projects, offers advisory services to donors and other philanthropists, and acts as a knowledge center for philanthropy and private social investment. CAPS is seeking to hire a paid, part-time Digital and Social Media Intern in Hong Kong. Depending on the applicant’s personal schedule and on the Centre’s business needs, specific working hours can be determined upon discussion, but should total one business day of work per week. The person in this role will work closely with the Director of Research and Research Associate to manage our online presence.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Upload social media content, including written text, hashtags, videos, images, and links;
  • Stage homepage posts contributed by Centre staff and partners via Wordpress CMS, finding and adding images, hyperlinking, uploading download files, and copy-editing;
  • Contribute to the drafting of social media posts promoting the research work of CAPS;
  • Design and create simple graphics for social media posts;
  • Monitor and track social media and website mentioning of CAPS;
  • Quality-check our homepage to make sure it is consistent and functioning in content and design.

 Requisite Qualifications and Skills

  • Current student (either undergraduate or graduate) or recent graduate;
  • Interested in journalism, public relations, communications, social media, design, public policy, philanthropy, or the nonprofit sector;
  • Proficient in strategic and advanced use of social media, including LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram;
  • Working knowledge of Wordpress CMS;
  • Working knowledge of Adobe Photoshop, Adobe InDesign, or Adobe Illustrator
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word and Microsoft PowerPoint;
  • Strong written and verbal English skills;
  • Ability to troubleshoot and find workarounds in using various technological software and tools;
  • Ability to work independently;
  • Eagerness to share creative ideas and opinions;
  • Very organized and detail-oriented.

 Preferred Qualifications and Skills

  • Academic exposure to communications, journalism, and/or social media;
  • Previous internship/work experience in social media, communications, and/or public relations;
  • Experience in managing and maintaining organizational social media pages, whether it would be for a student club/organization, start-up, university, or company;
  • Experience with paid social media advertising and Google Analytics;
  • Working knowledge of video-editing programs such as iMovie, Final Cut Pro, and Adobe Premiere Pro.
