Job Description

Reporting to the Librarian, the Assistant Librarian will assist in the day-to-day operation of the Orchestra’s library.  This position will also provide general support to the Orchestral Operations Department as and when necessary.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  •  To assist in all aspects of music preparation, including but not limited to proofreading, marking bowings, editing, scanning and/or photocopying sheet music and distribution;
  • To work with the Librarian to ensure that orchestra parts meet acceptable standards;
  • To assemble and arrange music in orchestra folders;
  • To distribute practice copies, study parts, and scores to the Orchestra before rehearsals;
  • To collect all music after performances, and return to library or publishers as appropriate;
  • To assist conductors and musicians with issues related to printed music;
  • To attend rehearsals and performances as rostered;
  • To assist in the maintenance of the Library’s collection of scores and parts; repair and maintain music and folders;
  • To catalogize and file music scores belonging to the orchestra library and to record repertoire performance data.


Attributes
:

  •  A university degree in music or fine arts, with 1-2 years of working experience;
  • Skills in instrumental performance or other arts activity preferred;
  • Strong interest in and knowledge of classical music with the ability to read printed music is essential;
  • Excellent written and spoken communication skills in English and Chinese and fluency in Putonghua;
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills, with the ability to meet tight deadlines;
  • Attention to details and the ability to produce accurate and neat work;
  • Knowledge of music preparation software (such as Finale or Sibelius) is a plus;
  • Willingness to work flexible hours.
