INSTITUTIONAL RESEARCH AND PLANNING OFFICE

Manager (Institutional Intelligence) (Ref. 18032909-IE)

Institutional Research and Planning Office (IRPO) is a dynamic unit responsible for assisting with strategic planning, tracking of performance, institutional research and analytics, statutory statistical reporting, coordination of ranking exercises and executive decision support.

Duties
 
The appointee will be required to:

(a) identify and lead the exploration of meaningful and actionable institutional research questions through a thorough understanding of the strategic priorities of the University and networking with a wide array of stakeholders;

(b) formulate solutions to key questions by sourcing data, performing analyses, and writing institutional research reports;

(c) utilize University data systems to develop and apply in-depth analyses and report on topics including institutional activity and performance, institutional effectiveness, and benchmarking among others;

(d) work closely with the Director of Institutional Research and Planning to ensure that engagements of the Office are in direct support of the University’s goals;

(e) supervise and mentor a team of colleagues working on analytics and statistics engagements;

(f) lead a number of analytics engagements for the purposes of creating insights, unveiling predictors and formulating road maps for improvement;

(g) collaborate across units to design and implement solutions for key initiatives;

(h) collect, manage, analyse and interpret a broad range of institutional data;

(i) present complex ideas, techniques, and analytic findings clearly and effectively; and

(j) perform any other duties as assigned by the Director of Institutional Research and Planning or her delegates.
 
Qualifications

Applicants should have:

(a) a recognised Master’s  degree in Analytics, Computer Science and/or Statistics;

(b) at least eight years of solid and relevant post-qualification work experience at a responsible level, including some experience in an analytic and data support role;

(c) previous experience involving strong analytical skills in an office of institutional research or similar functions;

(d) experience in extracting information using computer programming languages and online analytical processing systems;

(e) expertise in the use of analytics tools such as Qlikview, Tableau, and/or Power BI;

(f) ability to interpret and produce effective written documentation for data systems;

(g) ability to work independently on complex assignments, collaborate with others, and make judgments about priorities and quality; and

(h) crucial traits such as an excellent organizational judgment and strong abilities to negotiate, seek consensus, and achieve cooperation.

Remuneration and Conditions of Service

A highly competitive remuneration package will be offered. Initial appointment will be on a fixed-term gratuity-bearing contract. Re-engagement thereafter is subject to mutual agreement. Applicants should state their current and expected salary in the application.
