Job Description

DEPARTMENT:       Gap HK and Taiwan

REPORTING TO:    VP and GM, Hong Kong and Taiwan (also oversees Mainland China eCommerce)

LOCATION:             Hong Kong, with travel to Taipei as necessary

GENERAL SUMMARY:

Gap Greater China is the primary growth market for Gap Inc., covering all channels of business in mainland China, Hong Kong and Taiwan. Our first stores opened in 2010, with two in Shanghai, and two in Beijing, and we grew our online presence concurrently, launching Gap.cn and Tmall sites. Gap reached 100 stores faster than its competitors and is on pace to deliver its first profitable year well in advance of the competition. Gap is represented in China by Gap Specialty, Gap Outlet and Old Navy brands.

 

The Manager of Store Optimization and Commercial Planning will be responsible for the development and tracking of ongoing commercial actions in achieving business objectives (e.g. promotions, events); store optimization projects (e.g.divisional space allocation in a given store), as well as helping in the optimization and development of alternative channels such as eCommerce and omnichannel offerings.  He/she will work closely with the Director of Store Optimization and Commercial Planning for Gap Inc. Greater China based in Shanghai.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

Commercial Planning

  • Work with Finance and Company Planning to determine and track progress against quarterly, monthly and weekly financial targets
  • Collaborate with leadership and cross-functional teams to develop and communicate a comprehensive commercial strategy for Hong Kong and Taiwan markets
  • Build commercial plan calendar with aligned product, inventory, marketing, CRM, visual, and financial strategies to achieve business objectives
  • Build commercial plan based on market-specific holidays/event, different seasonality, sales/inventory positions
  • Work closely with HK/TW team of marketing, store operations and field to plan and execute HK/TW specific projects and events
  • Plan and manage quarterly commercial planning hindsight & calendar development meetings, and weekly battle plan meeting to review short-term action plans
  • Analyze historical sales data, current trends, and promotion results to identify risks & opportunities for the market, and adjust the commercial plan if necessary
  • Ensure differentiation across channels, while identifying opportunities for any cross-channel synergies
  • Analyze competitor strategies to identify threats/opportunities

 

Store Optimization

  • Get insights from reports and analyses to share with cross functional team and take actions accordingly
  • Optimize productivity for flagship & center piece stores
    • Reallocate store space by division when necessary to maximize gross margin per sqft
    • Re-define assortment levels by division
    • Find opportunity with more assortment breadth or depth in specific division or category in top stores
    • Have different promo/offer in top stores when necessary to maximize margin
    • Implement elevated window message, product display, store engagement for top stores where necessary
    • Optimize the mkd/sale section in top stores, consolidate liable mkd inventory within each market
  • Test new assortment, pricing, promo offer, window, etc. in selected stores and roll out to more stores when there are positive results

 

Business Development--eCommerce, Omnichannel, and other distribution channels

 

  • Work with eCommerce team to optimize eCommerce offerings and financial performance for HK and TW markets
  • Assist in roll-out of omnichannel initiatives (e.g. ship from store, order in store) with cross-functional partners
  • Identify and develop other distribution channel opportunities specific to HK and TW markets

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

 

- Bachelor’s degree

- 8-10 years of experience in Finance, Strategic Planning, Store Planning or Merchandise Planning highly    desired

- Strong strategic thinking and analytical skills

- Results-orientation and clear understanding of financial measurements

 

- Strong verbal and written communication skills; communicates clearly and effectively

- Ability to effectively negotiate with and influence peers and cross-functional team members

- Able to effectively manage and resolve conflict

- Able to lead teams and develop results-oriented teams

- Bilingual fluency in English and Chinese (Cantonese and Mandarin)

 

- Proactively identify business issues and develop creative solutions

- Extremely organized and coordinated with data and project planning

- Able to lead project of medium scale

- Proficient in Microsoft Excel & PowerPoint

- Background with Retail or eCommerce is a plus
