Our client is one of the world’s leading sourcing organizations with a global presence in over 40 countries throughout the world.  

The Position – Merchandising Manager – Apparel (Japanese market)

Based in Hong Kong and reporting to the General Merchandising Manager, the successful candidate will lead a team of over five to carry out sourcing, merchandising and product development responsibilities.

Depending on the candidate’s experience and ability, he/she may be given an Assistant Manager or Division Manager title.

• Work closely with the Japan buyers to understand and meet their requirements on product development and sourcing.
• Develop sourcing strategies according to the company’s requirements.
• Source new vendors. Support and develop strategic vendor relationship.
• Keep abreast of the market information and share within the team and with the Japanese counter-part, such as material prices, labor issues and trade news.
• Oversee the overall merchandising process to ensure on time delivery.
• Work closely with the technical team on product specification and quality from product development to production.
• Facilitate daily communication externally and internally.

The Candidate

• Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience working in trading companies or manufacturers serving the Japanese apparel market.
• Well connected with vendors and suppliers who can work with the Japanese market.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to handle Japanese buyers independently.
• Fluency in Japanese is prerequisite.
