CONFUCIUS INSTITUTE OF HONG KONG

Executive Officer (Ref. 18042303-E)

Duties

The Confucius Institute of Hong Kong (CIHK), placed under the Faculty of Humanities, is an Institute with an academic purpose set up by the University with the authorization from the Office of Chinese Language Council International (Hanban).  Its aim is to promote Chinese language and culture to both native and non-native speakers. The Institute is now looking for an experienced administrator in managing major activities.  The appointee will be required to:

(a) provide professional day-to-day management of the Institute’s activities and supervision to supporting staff;

(b) assist the Director/Deputy Director in policy development for the Chinese language learning and culture promotion programmes, budget planning and presentation, and administering the quality assurance processes;

(c) contribute to the planning and execution of the programmes, related projects and other major activities of the Institute;

(d) administer the Institute’s academic programmes including promotion and student recruitment, enrolment and admission matters, examination and student relations, etc.;

(e) oversee the implementation of Summer Chinese Language/Cultural Programmes for local and non-local English speaking students at CIHK and/or PolyU;

(f) administer major events such as international conferences and symposia, seminars and workshops for special projects, exhibitions and artistic presentations, etc.;

(g) prepare publicity materials including corporate folders, brochures, videos, websites, etc., in both English and Chinese, and their dissemination;

(h)  liaise with internal units and external organizations/professional bodies to ensure the smooth running of the programmes and activities;

(i)  proactively build links with educational/professional bodies in nurturing and promoting the programmes and activities. Travelling outside Hong Kong for liaison, preparation, promotion and/or execution of the Institute’s programmes/activities may also be required; and

(j) perform any other duties as assigned by the Director of the Institute or his/her delegates.

Qualifications

Applicants should:

(a) have a recognised degree in Chinese Language and Literature or History and Culture or related areas;

(b) have at least five years of working experience, preferably in the educational field;

(c) have experience in and knowledge of programme planning and management, marketing and promotion of education programmes;

(d) have an excellent command of English and Chinese with native or near-native proficiency in Putonghua;

(e) have excellent interpersonal and communication skills; and

(f) be able to work in a dynamic environment and under pressure.

Preference will be given to those with experience in dealing with senior executives and professionals.  

Shortlisted candidates will be invited to sit for a written language proficiency test.
 
Remuneration and Conditions of Service

A highly competitive remuneration package will be offered.  Initial appointment will be on a fixed-term gratuity-bearing contract. Re-engagement thereafter is subject to mutual agreement. Applicants should state their current and expected salary in the application.
