Job Description

We are inviting high calibre professionals to join our Advocacy and Practice Development Department. These are exciting and challenging opportunities to lead the Institute's activities in areas that are central to maintaining the first class international profile of Hong Kong and the Institute. 

The department is responsible for thought leadership, professional development and advocacy work for the accounting profession in relation to taxation (including Hong Kong, Mainland/ cross-border and international taxation), insolvency and restructuring, corporate governance, forensic accounting, anti-money laundering ("AML") and other areas.

One of the department's regular projects involves organizing the Institute's Best Corporate Governance Awards, which is a flagship project. The department is also taking a leading role in developing AML guidance for members and coordinating with various stakeholders in the development of the AML regulatory framework for accountants in Hong Kong. The department is responsible for managing the Institute's Taxation Faculty, Restructuring and Insolvency Faculty, and Forensics Interest Group. These specialist groups provide platforms for knowledge sharing, professional development and technical work for professionals working or having a keen interest in the relevant specialisation.

Other projects and activities handled by the department include:

  • Organizing continuous professional development seminars and updates in the areas that the department covers;
  • Liaising with relevant departments of the Hong Kong SAR Government as well as Mainland tax authorities;
  • Preparing technical submissions in response to public consultations, legislative initiatives and policy proposals from Hong Kong and overseas, in relation to the areas covered by the department.

Role and Responsibilities

  • Manage/ assist in managing the Best Corporate Governance Awards and other projects
  • Provide technical and administrative support to professional staff of the department
  • Draft technical information and papers, including newsletters, for dissemination to members
  • Conduct/ coordinate research in relation to the department's projects  
  • Oversee/ coordinate the organization of activities and events (e.g., seminars, conferences and networking events)
  • Some travelling is required but frequent travelling is not expected

Qualifications and Required Attributes

  • A recognized university degree. A member of the Institute or a major international professional accounting body is preferred
  • A minimum of 5 years’ post qualification relevant experience working experience
  • A strong technical background, preferably including knowledge of one or more of the areas handled by the department
  • High professional and ethical standards with a strong sense of commitment
  • Ability to deal with different stakeholders and partner organizations in Hong Kong and internationally
  • Well-organized, a team player with excellent written and oral communication skills in English and Chinese. Good command of Putonghua would be an advantage
