Job Description

Summary:

To provide technical support and installation services to colocation customers at the data centre.  Manage daily operations activities at the data centre including circuit provisioning and fault repairs.  Perform on site troubleshooting and maintenance on circuits with remote maintenance centers, provide remote hands support to colocation customers, support hardware replacement or other IMAC work,  ad hoc project assignments on circuit migration and regroom activities.

Major Responsibilities:

Provide on site technical support to customers, including basic troubleshooting on customer equipment under customer instructions and perform routine tape backup schedules

Work with PTT to coordinate installations and problem isolations at the data centre.

Provide support to the local operations team on circuit provisioning, testing and fault isolation.

Direct and supervise all external contractors performing installations and repair services at the data centre.

Provide technical support and remote hands to remote maintenance centers for card replacement, fault isolation and maintenance activities.

Manage data centre access and be responsible for site security ensuring all access is logged accurately.

Liaise and coordinate with equipment vendors on behalf of the customer and as per their instructions.

 

General Scope of Work:

 

Support areas include, but not limited to, the following:

  • Understanding of server, storage and network hardware and what different components do
  • Assessing potential impact when connecting equipment
  • Installing, removing, and working with equipment such as switches, routers, etc.
  • Reseating of components
  • Executing upgrades and downgrades on physical equipment based on provided documentation
  • Inserting and removing line cards and modules
  • Restarting servers
  • Upgrading firmware as provided in SOP
  • Installing encrypted OS on bare system
  • Setting up RAID controllers
  • Configuring remote ILOE
  • Working with various cable technology

o       Fiber cable and connectors

o       Copper cable and connectors

  • Using best practices in cable management
  • Racking, stacking and cabling equipment according to documented standards
  • Basic understanding of PDUs, RPPs and provisioning redundant power
  • Working with power connectivity and power cabling
  • Implementing console cabling and different connectors as required
  • Installing and troubleshooting of patch panels
  • Using standard labeling practices
  • Working with tape libraries and replacing tapes
  • Following documented health and safety standards
  • Monitoring the datacenter environment for potential issues not covered by monitoring tools
  • Organizing spare part inventory when provided

 

Knowledge/Skills, Education/Experience:

(Minimum requirements to perform the role at a satisfactory level)

Degree or higher diploma in telecommunication engineering or equivalent

Minimum of 3 year’s recognised hands on technical experience in some or all of the following:

  •          Voice and data telecom equipment
  •          PC, Window OS, UNIX/Linux and PC server hardware support
  •          IP, MPLS, SDH, transmission, DACCS, switch and router
  •          Data centre operating environment and knowledge of building infrastructure, e.g. power,                cooling, generator, UPS and fire protection
  •          Router configuration and understanding of IP routing concepts

 

Strong communication skill of both oral and written in English and Cantonese, fluency in Mandarin speaking is an asset

Willing to perform 7 x 24 hours shift work

 

Experience in direct customer interaction
