State Street Global Markets is one of the leading players in the foreign exchange markets, with extensive capabilities in the G10 and EM Asia space. Our trading desks in Hong Kong are the epicentre of our FX business within Asia Pacific, driving the pulse of our Sydney, Seoul, Singapore, Taipei and Tokyo offices.

As part of this team, you will be able to develop invaluable insights into the intricacies of the $5.1 trillion a day FX market and gain an exposure to our numerous FX offerings – namely spot, forwards and NDFs. You will work alongside our sales and trading teams, and will be expected to provide high level technical and investment analytical support to the desks, particularly in transforming trends in our institutional client flow into implementable trading ideas. At the same time, providing quick and accurate pricing is a cornerstone to our market making success, and your contribution in developing and maintaining tools in the pricing, trading and risk management of our various FX instruments will be vital. We will also need to be able to accurately assess the performance our teams, and you will play a key role in the preparation of P&L reports on a daily and monthly basis. At the end of this internship, you will develop a good insight into the FX market, as well as hone your skills in handling and shaping data into useful insights.

Research

Our research desks provide one of the most original research offerings in the market, combining in-depth insights of our macro strategists with the cutting-edge expertise of State Street Associates, our unique partnership with academia. As part of our research team, you will be able to understand our unique flow-based research, which leverages our strength as one of the world’s largest custodian banks, and use these insights into supporting the Macro Strategy team in production of research pieces and presentations for clients. You will be able to analyze and summarize data, particularly for Asia-Pacific and emerging market economies. In doing so, you will attain proficiency on using our research portal uploads and flow indicators. You will also produce research in a timely and efficient manner, in response to research requests of our clients and trading desks.

Trading

As the first provider to offer an FX platform to asset managers, we give you access to our innovation-led approach in electronic trading. eExchange is our suite of award-winning integrated electronic trading solutions for FX, futures, US treasuries and the subscription and redemption of money market funds and exchange traded funds.

This is a 6-month  full time internship so you need to defer your study if you are offered. Please indicate in your CV:  

• Your expected graduation date
• Your GPA
• If you are eligible to work in HK (we will only consider candidates who are eligible to work in HK)
• Demonstrable experience in handling large quantities of data and distilling them into key points for different stakeholders
• Programming experience (VBA) would be a huge advantage, particularly if you have used this to process data and time series analysis.
