Job Description

Reports to: Advocacy Manager 

 

KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY 

Research and Written Submission

  • Work with Advocacy Manager to undertake and/or commission researches on specific children’s rights issues to inform present and future advocacy choices and to build Save the Children’s position
  • Produce policy briefing papers, policy position statements, articles and public communication related to key advocacy issues
  • Work closely with the Communications team to advise on media strategy and to make optimal use of local and international media to influence key advocacy targets and public opinion
  • In collaboration with the Communications team, seek creative and influential routes to profile issues of importance for children

 Building Partnership

  • Develop and maintain an in-depth understanding of key advocacy issues and of the positions of key actors, including key political, civil society and economic leaders, donors, media editors, etc
  • Organize networking session with key actors in local society
  • Develop and maintain contacts of key actors
  • Develop and maintain ambassador program in local secondary schools and universities

Campaign

  • Manage advocacy campaign of the Save the Children and ensure that advocacy is an integral part of Save the Children’s Theory of Change
  • Develop advocacy plans with advocacy manager, implement advocacy projects effectively and maintain financial control
  • Work with the program team to ensure substantial integration of advocacy into holistic programme design, planning and implementation.
  • Work with Save the Children advocacy global leads and advocacy coordination groups to ensure linkages of local, national and global advocacy issues in a manner that informs Save the Children advocacy at all levels, and to ensure coherence of messaging

 

KEY SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ATTITUDE

  • Self-motivated and with an ambition to deliver the best fundraising outcomes for children.
  • University graduate preferable a recognized degree in social science, journalism, government and public administration, international relations, government and laws, translation, language and communication or related disciplines
  • At least 3 years solid working experiences on advocacy campaign and / or public education projects. Not-for-profit background is preferred
  • Knowledge on local civil society, political and international issues are preferred
  • Excellent research and presentation skills
  • Excellent proficiency in written and oral English and Cantonese
  • Able to work with colleagues and partners from multi-cultural and diverse backgrounds
  • Good design, planning and implementation skills
  • Computer skills and communications technologies (Microsoft Office, Google Applications, Skype and etc.)
  • Willing to engage with different types of individual and community groups
  • Ability to work independently and with a team
  • Outgoing, strong inter-personal communication skills
