We are now inviting application(s) for the following postin the School of Education and Languages. The School of Education and Languages has been offering undergraduate and postgraduate teacher education and language programmes. The teacher education programmes include teacher preparation for early childhood education and selected subjects in primary and secondary education. The language education programmes include Bachelor of Language Studies with Honours (Applied Chinese Language Studies) and Bachelor of English Language Studies with Honours. Further, the School of Education and Languages also operates two pre-service teacher education programmes in Chinese and English Languages.

Assistant Professor (Education)

Duties

The appointeewill be responsible for the course planning, development, coordination and delivery (including classroom teaching) in related disciplines at the undergraduate, taught and research post-graduate levels. He/she will also be required to engage in scholarly activities as well as participate in School/University activities and administration. Successful applicant will be expected to offer General Education courses as well as some relevant courses in the teacher education programmes. Applicants with specialist knowledge and research experience in any of the following areas are invited to apply for this post: Sociology of Education, Social Psychology of Education, Ethics in Education, Social Issues about Education, Learning and Teaching in Liberal Studies.

Requirements

Applicants should have an earned doctorate in a relevant discipline with relevant teaching/professional experience including programme development and course administration. A record of research and peer-reviewed publications, involvement in professional and community activities are required. Applicants are also expected to be familiar with the educational system and development in Hong Kong. He/she should have a recognised teacher training qualification and preferably have some school teaching experience. Applicants without the doctorate degree may be cosnidered for the post of Lecturer.

A good command of English and Chinese (preferably including Putonghua) is required for all applicants.

Terms of Appointment

Successful candidate will be appointed on a full-time fixed term contract, with a possibility of renewal.   Fringe benefits will include annual leave, medical & dental benefits, life insurance coverage and gratuity, where applicable.
