Job Description

Main Purpose of Job:         To achieve sales targets and meet customer satisfaction through selling and promoting company services to existing and potential customers inAsia Pacific.

Reporting to :                     Sales Director APAC

Responsible for:                       Customer Accounts as defined and agreed with Sales Director

Liaison with:                            Sales/Purchasing/R&D / Technical / Operations / Finance.

Personal Situation:  Must be mature and domestically secure. Able to travel extensively at times without upsetting domestic situation.  Able to work extended hours when necessary.

Specific Job Skills:  Able to communicate and motivate via written media. Understands the principles of marketing and advertising cost-effectiveness, including market sector targeting, product offer development, features-benefits-solutions selling, cost per response, cost per conversion, etc. Proven track record of delivering sales and profit. Experience of negotiating with senior executives at major multi national organisations. 

Computer skills:  Must be adept in use of MS Office 2000 or later, particularly Excel and Word, PPT, email, etc.

Literacy and Numeracy:   Able to understand profit and loss calculations and basic business finance, eg., gross margin percentages and calculations, depreciation, capital and revenue expenditure, cash-flow, overheads, etc. Must be a competent writer of business letters, quotations and proposals.

Business and Selling Skills:   Must be an excellent face-to-face and telephone communicator. Able to demonstrate success and experience managing major accounts, customers and large contracts or even a business, particularly achieving genuine sales development. Ideal background would be in food manufacturing and / or with retail skills. 

Role Purpose:  The Sales Manager’s key purpose is to manage a range of customers, and have in the pipeline at various stages of development other customers, who will collectively assist the delivery of the monthly and annual sales budget.

Role Definition:

The Sales Manager is responsible for a range of important customers within Asia Pacific. This person will work in conjunction with the Sales Director and the other Sales staff to ensure that the entire customer group is managed in a consistent way and that priorities are set and worked to which are correct for the business.

The role has to be based on a breadth of experience and the job holder needs to have significant experience in managing complex customers and relationships, have the ability to assess internal information such as product costing and broader financial information and ensure that the most profitable business is attracted to the business. Equally the job holder has to demand and set high standards from their colleagues and themselves. They have to demonstrate a basic sales determination and aggression to deliver the sales budget number.

The job holder has to strike a sensible balance between sales management and business development. This is in the end a judgment based on the specific customers but an imbalance either way will fail eventually.

The job holder needs to report to their line manager and the wider business on their own customer performance and provide information as requested when annual budget or latest estimates are required.      

Day to day judgments will be required by the job holder so they need to be well rounded individuals and well versed in the basics and more advanced techniques of sales management

Strong commercial judgment together with personal determination and strong communication skills are all important attributes of the job holder.

Specific Areas of Responsibility

Main Tasks of Job:

  • To manage and grow the sales of our core ranges to a range of customers.
  • Achieve agreed sales budget.
  • Organise and control customer sales information.
  • Plan and maintain customer relationships across the whole business.
  • To build strong relationships with customers and manage on-going communications.
  • Monitor and report on activities and provide relevant management information.
  • Ensure vehicle in your possession is kept clean and in good condition, adhering to Company Car Policy.
  • Ensure company property in your possession is kept safe and in good condition.
  • Ensure travel policy is adhered to.
  • Maintain and develop existing and new customers through appropriate propositions and ethical sales methods, and relevant internal liaison, to optimise quality of service, business growth, and customer and satisfaction.
  • Use customer and prospect contact activities tools and systems, and update relevant information held in these systems.
  • Plan/carry out/support local marketing activities to agreed budgets and timescales, and integrate personal sales efforts with other organized marketing activities, e.g., product launches, promotions, advertising, exhibitions and telemarketing.
  • Respond to and follow up sales enquiries using appropriate methods.
  • Record, analyse, report and administer according to systems and requirements.
  • Communicate, liaise, and negotiate internally and externally using appropriate methods to facilitate the development of profitable business and sustainable relationships.
  • Attend and present at external customer meetings and internal meetings with other company functions necessary to perform duties and aid business development
  • Attend trainings and use personal initiative to continually develop relevant knowledge, techniques and skills.
