Job Description

Summary:      The U.S. Mission in Hong Kong is seeking eligible and qualified applicants for the position of Commercial Assistant.

 

Duties:  Employee reports directly to an American Supervisor. Employee supports Commercial Officers and Commercial Specialists to develop and implement market entry and expansion programs, undertakes in-depth market research, reporting complex information in concise, readable formats to Post’s clients and, as necessary, in support of high-level Department of Commerce (and possibly other agency) officials. Analyzes market trends and evaluates research to support Commercial Specialists and for assigned industry sectors. Maintains working- to mid-level contacts in key industry sectors and with relevant government entities in Hong Kong & Macau. Tracks client satisfaction by seeing that participation agreements for CS services are cleared in the system and generates export Written Impact Narrative (WIN) reports resulting from counseling and trade promotion activities. Maintains client records in SalesForce, tracks WINs, Client Assists, and Commercial Diplomacy targets and keeps Commercial Officers and Commercial Specialists apprised of status of metrics and strategies to achieve and surpass goals. Provides guidance to contractors. The incumbent is responsible for supporting event management and logistics for Post’s client accounts, including trade missions and matchmaking programs. The incumbent acts as post’s Computer System Administrator / Webmaster.

 

Qualifications and Evaluations

 

EDUCATION:   A Bachelor’s Degree in one of the following areas: Business Management, Economics, Marketing, Finance, International Trade, or Business Administration is required.

 

Requirements:

 

EXPERIENCE:  Three to five years of progressively responsible experience in business, government or industry associations in the fields of sales, marketing, business development, trade promotion, or international trade is required. 

 

JOB KNOWLEDGE:  Must have firm knowledge of the domestic economy, commercial and industrial structures, business and industry customs and practices and trade and investment laws, regulations and policies. Firm knowledge of U.S. business practices is required.

 

Evaluations:

 

LANGUAGE:  Level IV (fluency-reading/writing/speaking) in English and Cantonese are required(This will be tested.) 

 

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:  Must have Level I typing skills, basic computer programming skills, and be able to operate office equipment. Must have ability to develop and maintain an extensive range of mid to high-level contacts in the host government and private sector. Analytical skills and ability to interact with and provide advice to U.S. clients, and to coordinate, plan and manage events and services for those clients. Skill in basic office IT applications & computer terminal equipment. Must be able to work on a team. The ability to meet numerical export success goals and revenue generation targets is also required.
