Position Overview

Blackpeak is seeking a senior associate, to be based in its Tokyo office, focusing on managing risk projects (including due diligence, business intelligence and disputes) in Japan.  We are looking for an experienced and self-driven individual who wants to be part of a high quality, diverse and busy team.  You will have the opportunity to work on a broad range of projects across industries and will need to be capable of managing, and on occasion, autonomously executing risk projects.

You will be required to manage assignments and associates on a day-to-day basis.  You will be expected to be able to carry out intensive research (both primary and secondary) and analysis of large amounts of data and then assessing accuracy, reliability and relevance.  You will also be expected to be able to produce and direct the production of high quality written reports and charts and present your findings to clients, oftentimes under the supervision of or in collaboration with members of the Blackpeak senior management team.

Skills and experience

The following skills and competencies are relevant:

• A Japanese or foreign national, with a native or complete fluency in written and spoken English and Japanese.
• The ability to carry out detailed research and analysis via proprietary databases, the internet and human sources.
• 5-10 years of Japanese equities research experience
• Excellent oral and written communications skills in both Japanese and English
• The ability to deliver effective briefings to sophisticated investors, including hedge fund clients
• Possession of an existing network of human sources would be an asset.
• A solid understanding of the business environment in Japan, including the key issues affecting investors, would be an advantage.
• The ability to meet deadlines, prioritize workload and multi-task under pressure.
• The ability to work as a part of a multinational team across Blackpeak’s seven offices in Asia and the Americas. This may include periods of working with colleagues in other countries.
• The ability to manage and work with external consultants.
• The maturity and skills required support Blackpeak’s senior management in marketing to clients and to develop and manage client relationships.
• Relevant experience in journalism, risk analysis, consulting and/or other research positions is preferred.
