Department Overview

The Client Accounting department consists of two teams: Private Sales and Auctions. Both teams manage all the payments received and payable for either private sales or auction sales of high value art between Christies and our clients. This vacancy is within our Private Sales team.

Position Summary:

This is a fantastic opportunity to join Christies in a finance/customer service role. You may currently be a finance or customer services coordinator looking to develop your career and join a global organisation within the art industry. You do not need to be a qualified accountant, only to have good working knowledge of accounts payable and accounts receivable. We are happy to cross train if you are from another industry.

You will be responsible for the day to day processing of our private sales. You will be liaising with internal specialist departments, our sales and auction teams, and of course our prestigious clients. You will ensure a seamless and effective service to our stakeholders underpinned by proper governance, accuracy and the ability to meet deadlines. You will work with the team to resolve problems and provide a fantastic client service in line with Christies values and ways of working.

Key Responsibilities

Validating and verifying private sales transactions to ensure legal compliance:

  • Christie's has the legal right to consideration;

  • Transacting with the vendor and/or buyer does not place unnecessary risk on Christie's;

  • Any tax considerations have been vetted and approved;

  • Any contingent issues for sale or payment have been addressed; and

  • The corresponding accounting entries accurately reflect the sale.

Acting as the point of contact with the all stakeholders, both internal and external to ensure correct procedures are followed and proper documentation is received for all transactions:

  • Building strong relationships with clients, specialist art departments and other key internal stakeholders.

  • Ensuring payments from our client buyers and settlement to the client sellers is timely and accurate, liaising with Treasury and Cashiers to provide seamless client service.

  • Maintaining a record of processed private sales, ensuring these are reconciled back to the General Ledger

  • Maintaining the AR & AP ledgers for company 308.

  • Assisting the Art departments with Private Sale exhibitions

 

Skills and Experience Required

We are seeking a highly skilled administrator who wishes to develop their career in a global, luxury branded organisation in the art industry.

You will assist with constantly reviewing and improving efficiencies and effectiveness of our systems and processes.

You will have strong client management relationship skills.

You will be excellent using MS Outlook, Word, Powerpoint, Excel and preferably JD Edwards systems or similar.

You will have a good understanding of payment processes and the ability to understand accounts payable and accounts receivable.

You will be a natural problem solver and solutions focused.

You will be naturally organised, self-motivated, able to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
