Job Description

The Company:

Preqin is an award-winning independent research company providing data and intelligence to the alternative assets industry, through the collection and collation of data both directly from investors and fund managers, and through tracking of online resources. We provide investment professionals with the impartial and powerful information they need to make robust decisions; we are not practitioners in the financial industry and we do not provide direct advice. Our high quality data and research reports are well regarded and we have a strong brand name within the finance industry. Preqin’s clients include fund managers, legal firms, institutional investors, financial advisors and placement agents.

We are rapidly growing and have an increasingly global reach with offices in London, New York, San Francisco, Singapore, Hong Kong, Guangzhou and Manila.

The Role:

The Private Equity & Venture Capital Deals research team strives to ensure that Preqin’s coverage of private equity deals and exits along with venture capital financing rounds is accurate, up to date and comprehensive.

The successful candidate will be taking responsibility for the research, input and quality of Asian (mainly Japanese) data in one of Preqin’s market leading data products. This role involves research, data collection and verification of data on deals and exits in the private equity/venture capital industry. The position will allow you to gain/deepen and expand your knowledge of venture capital and private equity investments in Asia, with particular focus on the fast-growing market of Japan. With responsibility for the quality and research of Deals data in Japanese and with a remit of rapid growth in this area, this role provides an excellent opportunity to make a key difference to the Hong Kong team and the wider company. Opportunities are also available to contribute towards the production of bespoke data analysis for Preqin users and the financial press as well as Preqin’s reports and publications.

Due to the Japan-focused coverage of deals, fluency in Japanese is essential.

Responsibilities:

  • Daily tracking of online news and conducting in-depth online research on private equity and venture capital deals
  • Processing and inputting of deal information onto the online databases in a timely manner. You will be required to seek out and collect Asian data primarily written in Japanese and accurately input this into our databases in English.
  • Reviewing large amounts of data from multiple sources and curating the relevant facts
  • Performing data quality assurance checks and occasionally liaising with the Deals team in other offices to provide feedback on the quality of their output
  • Occasionally communicating with fund managers via phone and email to obtain accurate information on their investments
  • Occasionally performing statistical analysis using MS Excel and putting together reports for publications and client data requests
  • Writing in the ‘house’ style to compose online profiles and occasionally provide input to reports and publications
  • With experience, the candidate will be expected be responsible for sections of the data and to become an expert in that research area

  Key skills and attributes required:

  • Native/Bilingual fluency in English and Japanese
  • Education level - Bachelor’s Degree (or equivalent)
  • Excellent research abilities, being able to exhibit persistence, patience and a keen eye for detail to successfully gather valuable information.
  • A self-starter with proactive approach to dealing with issues, investigating anomalies and a desire to get to the bottom of a problem.
  • A keen interest in the alternative assets and/or finance industry
  • Comfortable working with numerical data
  • Analytical thinker
  • Strong team player who can successfully collaborate with colleagues across teams and offices but also has the ability, confidence and enthusiasm to work independently and take on a project
  • Diligence to meet targets and quality standards.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills; able to effectively communicate with high level executives via phone and email.
  • Relevant work experience in a research-led environment is desirable (particularly experience working in a research capacity covering private equity / venture capital / M&A deals) but not essential. We are looking for individuals who are enthusiastic, confident and keen to learn.

Benefits:

-   Sponsorship to undertake professional training and/or industry qualifications

-   Medical & Dental Benefits

-   Annual Leave - 20 days

-  Probation - 3 months
