Job Summary and Scope of Responsibility:

The Mechanical Engineer is responsible for increasing product efficiency from design to production, including process improvement for design and manufacturing, estimate the production cost, enhance product and process cost effectiveness and initiate costing improvements on existing products. Keep close connection with supplier and support sourcing team in NPD.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Handle projects from conceptual design to production (tooling, metal stamping, plastic injection, die casting and assembly);
• Review 3D details during design stage and propose appropriate materials and mechanical change to improve effectiveness of both design and manufacturing process
• Estimate cost base on the design, tooling drawings and mold construction prior to the factory.
• Check materials according to product specification, defining and measuring the requirement of mechanical components
• Reviews materials used in a product and recommends different materials or brands to reduce cost with the same or better level of quality.
• Enhance product and process cost effectiveness by conducting cost analysis
• Identifies parts of the product that have the highest cost contribution and determines ways to reduce the cost while not drastically altering the outlook of the product
• Initiate costing process improvements on existing products
• Agreeing budgets, timescales and specifications with supplier
• Support on sourcing to identify capable suppliers and to assess their secondary processes for capacity, quality and cost to meet design requirements.

Minimum Qualifications

Education:    Degree/ Higher Diploma in Mechanical / Manufacturing Engineering related disciplines.
Experience:  Minimum 3-5 years working experience, preferably in manufacturing industry, needs  
experience with outlook

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:  

• In depth knowledge and understanding of tooling, injection, manufacturing process and techniques
• Familiar with 2D, 3D engineering design and manufacturing tools (e.g. SolidWorks, Pro-E etc.)3Good command of both spoken and written English, Cantonese and Mandarin
• The ability to work under pressure, problem-solving skills, interpersonal skills, team working skills.
