Job Description

FACULTY OF SOCIAL SCIENCES

Europe Asia Policy Centre for Comparative Research (EAP)

The EAP affiliated to the Faculty of Social Sciences and the Department of GIS serves as a platform to research/debate/promote the study of European affairs and EU/China relations in all dimensions. Particular emphasis is on aspects of global ‘smart’ society development, urban development and multi-level governance (including civic society involvement) as well as general political, economic, social and cultural trends of European and global significance. The EAP also acts as a facilitator in obtaining external grants and as an interface in the relations between Faculty and external partners in academia, public administration, businesses and non-governmental organisations. EAP may be renamed to better reflect its work in due course. Applications are now invited for the following position.

The appointee will be in charge with all managerial, administrative, and organisational matters of the EAP so as to maintain optimum day-to-day performance. He/She will perform work of considerable complexity and responsibility, requiring comprehensive experience of running international and local liaison and academic cooperation schemes. He/She will also draft briefing/research papers and conceptual EAP project plans. Experience in collaborating with universities and think tanks, enterprises and business chambers, consular bodies and high-level public administrators both in Hong Kong and Europe is required.

Applicants should hold a university degree in political science, international relations, European Union-related studies, or equivalent, and have at least five years of substantial work experience in project management (in particular exhibition/conference organisation) and the drafting of policy briefs. Knowledge of EU grant and procurement procedures and/or knowledge in project finance/accounting are an advantage. He/She should have extremely good communication skills and be proficient in (written and spoken) Cantonese, Putonghua and English and preferably have working knowledge of at least one other official EU language. He/She should be ambitious and self-motivated as well as a congenial team player.

Initial appointment will be made on a fixed-term of contract until 2020. Re-appointment thereafter is subject to mutual agreement and availability of funding. The applicant is expected to take up duties on or before 1 September 2018 or soon thereafter.

Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Application Procedure:

Applicants are invited to submit their applications at the HKBU e-Recruitment System (jobs.hkbu.edu.hk). Applicants not invited for interview 8 weeks after the closing date may consider their applications unsuccessful. Details of the University’s Personal Information Collection Statement can be found at http://pers.hkbu.edu.hk/pics.

The University reserves the right not to make an appointment for the post advertised, and the appointment will be made according to the terms and conditions then applicable at the time of offer.

Closing date: 11 August 2018 (or until the position is filled)
