Job Description – Japan Equity Analyst

Aspex Management is a Hong Kong based firm founded in 2018 by an experienced team of investment professionals led by the former Head of Asia Equities at one of the largest alternative asset managers globally.  The firm currently functions as the family office of the founder.

The firm is looking to build a first-class investment team focused on fundamental equity long/short investing.  

Responsibilities

• Independently formulate and execute on equity investment ideas, with specific country focus on Japan and Japan related opportunities
• Generalist sector coverage, with a bias to consumer and internet, telecoms, technology, also finance and real estate, transportation and autos
• Conduct in-depth, thorough fundamental analysis on industries and companies through a range of avenues:

o   Building strong relationships with company management teams through calls and meetings

o   Visiting key operations of potential investment targets

o   Leveraging sell-side analyst research and building relationships

o   Travel to meet with target companies, competitors and suppliers

o   Detailed analysis of both third party and proprietary data sets, use of channel checks, consumer surveys

• Independently build and maintain detailed financial earnings models on the companies within coverage areas

Qualifications and Experience

• Bachelors or above degree from a top Japanese university in Science or Engineering related subjects
• A minimum of 8 years relevant industry experience, with at least 3 years of experience in equity investing roles
• Previous investment banking experience based in Japan would be a strong advantage, including exposure to M&A and Equity transactions
• Native Japanese speaker, with fluent English
