Job Description

The Role


The Press Assistant shall coordinate between Perrotin’s Hong Kong team, Perrotin’s Paris communications team and Perrotin's global team of artist liaisons to ensure press releases, newsletters, website and social media updates, advertisements and other collateral concerning Perrotin Hong Kong exhibitions, art fair participations and other news, are produced, distributed and archived accurately and in a timely manner.

Applicants demonstrating proven, excellent skills in art writing and translation (in English, Traditional Chinese and/or Simplified Chinese) may be considered for expanded or additional responsibilities in these areas.


Responsibilities

  • Liaise with translators to produce trilingual (English, Traditional Chinese and Simplified Chinese) art text for various press and communication material;
  • Liaise with appointed Hong Kong-based PR agency to plan, execute, monitor and track press activities;
  • Distribute press releases and news concerning Perrotin’s Hong Kong exhibitions and activities to the gallery’s press contacts, and respond to incoming press queries and interview requests;
  • Trilingual (English, Traditional Chinese and Simplified Chinese) translation of non-art text, e.g. correspondences and notices where applicable;
  • Assemble all relevant content and material, e.g. HD images, captions and key communication messages, for press releases, newsletters, website and social media updates, and advertisements;
  • Coordinate with Perrotin’s Hong Kong design team to produce layouts for various collateral;
  • Coordinate with photographers or be responsible for photography for social media posts, and coordinate with Perrotin’s Paris communications team on scheduling social media posts;
  • Research and evaluate advertising and marketing opportunities;
  • Complete relevant sections concerning marketing in art fair applications:
  • Gather, scan and file all coverage received through appointed PR agency;
  • Assemble a press book of selected coverage for each Hong Kong exhibition or project;
  • Assemble an advertisement report (hard and soft copies) for each Hong Kong exhibition or project for Perrotin’s Paris communications team;
  • Maintain a schedule of all deadlines related to the production, distribution and tracking of news via above-mentioned channels;
  • Track and record visitor attendance statistics;
  • Monitor and record relevant expenses;
  • Ad-hoc duties or projects as assigned.


Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in art, translation, communications, journalism or equivalent;
  • Minimum of 1 to 2 years of experience in a relevant full-time role;
  • Proven, strong skills in translating between written English and written Traditional Chinese (the ability to do so in, additionally, Simplified Chinese would present the applicant with an advantage);
  • Proven, strong skills in editing and proofreading in English and Traditional Chinese (the ability to do so in, additionally, Simplified Chinese would present the applicant with an advantage);
  • Highly organised and attentive-to-detail manner;
  • Professional work ethic and positive disposition;
  • Excellent communication and inter-personal skills;
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced work environment that is multicultural and spans multiple time zones (namely Paris, New York, Seoul and Tokyo);
  • Skilled in Microsoft Office and Mac operating system;
  • Right to reside in Hong Kong;
  • Skills in Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator and/or SketchUp will present the applicant with an advantage.
