Department of Government and International Studies

The appointee is expected to teach German (Levels A1-C1 of the CEFR) within the undergraduate programme in European Studies which combines intensive language training with a social sciences curriculum. Duties include: (a) contributing to various teaching & learning projects of the European Studies Programme and to apply for teaching & learning grants; (b) assisting the Programme Coordinator in curriculum development and exchange year arrangements for German Stream students; and (c) working closely with the Goethe-Institut Hong Kong, the German Consulate General in Hong Kong and Macau and with the German Academic Exchange Service Hong Kong.

Applicants:

(i) should possess a Master’s degree in Teaching German as a Foreign Language, Applied Linguistics or a related discipline;

(ii) should have a strong link to German higher institutions of education;

(iii) must show dedication and strong commitment in teaching & education within and beyond the classroom;

(iv) must be a good team player with good communication skills in English and German;

(v) possessing qualification in using technology in education is preferred; and

(vi) with interest in technology enhanced language teaching & research preferably in Asian/Chinese contexts and at a tertiary level would be an advantage.

Initial appointment will be made on a fixed-term contract of one to two years commencing September 2019. Re-appointment thereafter is subject to performance review, mutual agreement and availability of funding.

Reference salary range: HK$35,000 - HK$45,000 per month

Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
