Job Description

Reporting directly to the Design Manager, the incumbent will be responsible for managing the civil and building design for the project.  

The plant is a 550MW to 650MW combined cycle dual fired power plant at Black Point Power Station. D2 is the second of two new power units CLP is installing to increase the power generated by gas fuel. The work includes: sea-based intake and outfall cooling water system, reclaimed ground, in ground works including piling, concrete and buildings works including large foundations subject to high machinery loads. High levels of construability are essential and will be a key focus of the design. The design work will be done by consultants engaged by CLP and by contractors engaged by CLP.

 

 Responsibilities:

  • Design management of the project civil and building works from concept to detail design depending on the contracting strategy;
  • Manage the Building Department and the Fire Services Department requirements with practical solutions achieved;
  • Use design freezes at various stages of the design which are multidisciplinary in nature (civil building mechanical, electrical and controls) and ensure the civil and building design shall be integrated into a best for project solution;
  • Accountable for the accurate costing and time planning as the design develops;
  • Manage and monitor cost planning & control, programme / scheduling, project reporting, contracts and procurement with direct links to Finance;
  • Develop suitable cost plans with options during the design development stage;
  • Managing consultants and contractor’s designs is essential;
  • Manage a small team of civil and building staff within the CLP project team;
  • Conduct regular and accurate reporting and presentation of materials;
  • Specification drafting, and management of consultant’s specification drafting is required.

 Requirements:

  • Recognized university degree in Engineering is required;
  • Possess professional qualification from HKIE or other recognized engineering professional bodies is preferred;
  • Minimum 9 years’ related post-graduation experience with at least 3 years as Design lead or similar role for industrial structures covering both civil and building works;
  • Experience with sea related works is preferable;
  • Experience in large multi-discipline projects;
  • Strong reporting and interpersonal skills;
  • Be a team player and a self-starter with initiative and drive;
  • Able to work under pressure and be results oriented;
  • Proficient in MS Office applications and relevant database software/applications.
