Globally, this company has a sizeable legal team. Due to expansion, they are hiring a Privacy Counsel for Asia to be based in Singapore.

This key role will:

• Lead the privacy and data protection program in Asia and support its global privacy program
• Work closely with the privacy team, other legal team members as well as business leaders and technology specialists to support its global data privacy and data protection program
• Provide strategic input and ensuring compliance within the region and updating business units on relevant topics
• Support the Company's client-facing businesses and be the subject matter expert in data privacy matters
• Leading or participating in complex and/or cross-functional data privacy projects for a global firm with a diverse and evolving range of business lines and internal functions
• Contributing to leadership and guidance to business units in connection with the Company's continued maturation of its privacy functions
• Conducting data privacy impact assessments and developing privacy guidance for the Company's leadership in connection with important strategic opportunities and liaising and coordinating with other functions within the Company to ensure privacy is appropriately identified and addressed as part of new projects and initiatives
• Assisting in the creation of privacy and security governance documentation (e.g., FAQs, guidelines, policies)
• Reviewing the Firm’s privacy program and performance on an ongoing basis to ensure it is in line with business and strategic priorities, applicable law and industry best practices

To qualify, you should ideally have:

• Top academic credentials and qualification as a lawyer with at least 6 years' post-qualified experience gained in a top law firm and/or in-house legal department with a multinational company 
• Deep practical expertise in the areas of privacy governance, compliance and strategy, along with commensurate professional credentials (e.g., CIPP-APAC or equivalent) 
• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment
• Excellent interpersonal and influencing and problem solving skills
• Other compliance and/or legal experience in areas closely connected to data privacy (e.g., technology transactions or intellectual property) or in specific regulated industries (e.g., healthcare or banking)
• Strong background in information security and technology, including working collaboratively with technical experts in these areas
• Excellent written and oral communications skills in English; fluency in an additional language is advantageous (especially Chinese)
• Self-confident, flexible team player as well as being able to work independently
