Job Summary
- Further to our expansion in business to "fresh territory this is an exceptional opportunity to gain valuable experience by working full-time in one of the most prestigious and worldwide renowned ancient and contemporary art galleries.
Person specification and qualifications
- The ideal candidate will have successfully completed studies relevant to History of Art and/or Art Management for Fine or Visual Arts. A superior academic qualification in the same sectors is also much desirable.
Responsibilities and Duties
Main Responsibilities
- Handling client enquiry and make sales
- Planning, developing, presenting and managing smaller or larger scale projects relative to exhibitions, energetically liaising with internal and external collaborators.
- Organise the hire and/or purchase and maintenance of equipment required for exhibitions
- Compose and provide exhibition information and relative material to the other sections of the gallery as well as handling and referring exhibition-related and artwork- related enquiries
- Collate marketing/publicity/catalogue material, including liaising with the exhibition team, art lenders, designers, photographers, art publishers, etc.
- Prepare condition reports and regularly undertake condition checks
- Proactively and dynamically contribute to the further development and management of the gallery
Duties may include
- A wide range of day-to-day organizational and administrative tasks, focusing on arts marketing, managing the gallery's incoming and outgoing stock.
- Actively involved in the appearance, maintenance and facilities of the gallery on a daily basis, to ensure it runs efficiently and smoothly.
- You will daily report and liaise with Mr. Barakat, not only known as one of the world’s most important collectors and dealers of ancient art but a prolific and accomplished artist himself, and his team of collaborators in both London, Beverly Hills and Seoul.
Qualifications and Skills
Key Skills
- Ideally, you must have a proven track record of working experience in a museum or art gallery or art foundation in a similar role, both or either in Hong Kong as well as abroad, for a period of at least five years.
- Besides the qualifications of a strong academic background with exceptional research skills, you need to come with great experience in handling a variety of artworks of diverse material.
- You should be fluent (oral and written) both in Chinese (including Cantonese & Mandarin) and English. A third language would be of a great advantage.
- Motivation and creative flair, with an attention to detail are a must
- You must have great communication and negotiation skills, you must be supremely able to build and maintain relationships as well as enjoy working effectively and evolving within a team
- You must also be a focused individual and a flexible professional, with knowledge and a genuine interest in ancient and contemporary art.
