Job Description

Role:

  • Ensuring that current groups and multi-lingual activities are working with one another sharing a common vision and mission; supporting and encouraging our existing volunteer leaders.
  • Extending our work, whilst enabling further development in our new premises.
  • Reaching out to families - understanding their needs and being sensitive to the cultural issues influencing their lives in Hong Kong. Creating a welcoming context within which the gospel message is shared and families are helped to grow in faith.



Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and develop the work of MIC with 0-11’s and their families, on both Sundays and during the week.
  • Co-ordinate the under 11’s Sunday groups, reviewing the programmes and taking responsibility for the smooth running of activities.
  • Identify the optimal way of utilizing the new premises during weekdays to run children’s programmes; possibly in conjunction with external service providers.
  • Co-ordinate and facilitate special events across the year including Nativity, Holiday club, Light party, Family fun days.
  • Develop, train and equip teams of volunteers for our ministry with families.
  • Initiate and innovate ways of encouraging parents as disciples of Jesus and offering support as they nurture and support their children on their faith journey.
  • Act as a point of contact and ‘friend to the family’ of those with children at MIC, identifying those who are new to the church, helping them to integrate and signposting pastoral needs where appropriate.
  • Ensure that MIC Safeguarding and recruitment procedures are complied with and that children’s workers are trained in good practice with regard to keeping children safe.

Qualifications and Experience

  • A relevant qualification in teaching or children’s ministry is desirable.
  • Proven success in leading children’s activities in a church context.


 
Skills

  • Excellent pastoral skills with adults and children.
  • Ability to communicate and engage with groups of adults and children.
  • Computer literacy, including social media.
  • Strong ability to come alongside and develop others.
  • Strong organisational and time management skills.
  • Knowledge of and commitment to good practice in Safeguarding.

The Methodist International Church (MIC), is a gospel-preaching, disciple-making, diverse community in the centre of Hong Kong. Established in 1893, it now comprises eight congregations worshipping in English, Putonghua, Tagalog and Ilocano. MIC has recently completed a 22-storey building redevelopment in Wanchai and is looking to greatly enlarge its mission and ministry to Hong Kong.

We are now looking for someone to serve as the confidential/trusted assistant to the Senior Pastor. She/he will provide high-level support to the Senior Pastor in a wide range of activities in the performance of his administrative and ministerial responsibilities, while interacting with staff, congregational members and the community.
