Major Responsibilities

• Managing and leading a team of system specialists for system administration of mainframe systems, RS/6000 systems, and AS/400 systems, and manage database administration functions for DB2, Oracle and SQL Server
• Planning and developing overall planning of the infrastructure projects on mainframe and midrange systems based on their business requirements and priorities
• Acting as a central liaison for planning and coordinating infrastructure projects/enhancements/changes with internal and external parties
• Assisting the supervisors in preparing proposals, technical documents, operating budgets and reports
• Conducting system capacity planning and periodical review
• Developing detailed work plan for implementation and enhancement of system infrastructure
• Evaluating new technology on hardware, operating systems and software packages and utilities areas as well as making appropriate proposals for the improvement of services;
• Developing appropriate procedures and work instructions to ensure, at all times, system security and integrity of operating system, application systems and data;
• Sustaining high system availability by managing and maintaining effective emergency fix and contingency processes
• Monitoring staff productivity and performance by providing supervision and guidance to team members and taking appropriate actions to achieve better staff motivation and results
• Coordinating appropriate training sessions to team members on new developments in hardware and systems software components
• Arranging cross-training to staff members through job rotation where feasible
• Ensuring the succession plan is properly in place for continuity and knowledge retention
• Managing the team to carry out the following tasks:
• provide technical support on system software and hardware
• implement periodic system software / hardware upgrade
• implement new system software and hardware and perform various tests including performance test
• provide assistance and advice, as requested, on the features as well as the use of the operating systems software and utilities, the IBM mainframe, midrange and peripherals hardware
• Performing other duties as assigned by superiors

Requirements

• University education in information technology or electrical/electronic engineering
• Minimum of 10 years’ experience in mainframe and midrange system infrastructure design and production support with at least 3 years at management position
• Strong project management and coordination skills
• Knowledge of IBM mainframe and midrange hardware, z/OS, CICS, AIX, WAS, MQ, DB2, Oracle and SWIFT software and products
• Proven experience in managing large scale infrastructure projects such as data centre migration, DR centre setup or implementation of high performance/availability systems, etc.
• Good communication and supervisory skills
